SAINTS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HOSTS ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT

The Emmanuel College Athletic Department hosted its Annual Awards Night and Dessert Reception last weekend, celebrating the Saints success during the 2012-2013 athletic seasons. Student-athletes, coaches, supportive families and fans filled the gymnasium of Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday evening, April 27th, for the annual athletic recognition night. The event featured award presentations by the head coaches of each of Emmanuel's varsity programs and spirit teams, as well as major award presentations by Saints staff and administrators. Emmanuel's food service division, Bon Appetit, provided a delectable buffet of dessert selections for all of the attendees.

2013 MEN’S VOLLEYBALL SEASON IN REVIEW

BOSTON, Mass. – For the fifth time in six years, the Emmanuel College men’s volleyball team advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship game to culminate another successful campaign in which the Saints posted an 18-14 overall record including a 12-2 mark in GNAC play. Ultimately, EC fell to Rivier University in the GNAC title match, 3-1, but with just one senior on the roster, the Saints will continue to be a force in the conference and Northeast region for years to come.

EC WELL REPRESENTED ON GNAC MEN’S VOLLEYBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Volleyball team was well represented on the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Volleyball All-Conference Teams, landing a total of four players on the squads, it was announced by the conference earlier this week. Senior setter Nick Updike (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) earned First Team honors, sophomore outside hitters Ashanti Jackson (Sacramento, Calif.) and Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) were named to the Second Team while freshman middle hitter Julian Hess (Santa Monica, Calif.) was named to the Third Team.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN GNAC FINALS TO RIVIER, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. - No. 1 Rivier University successfully defended their GNAC crown with a hard fought 3-1 victory over #2 Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon. Rivier’s lone senior Steve Visentin (Cheshire, CT) was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after leading Rivier to a 3-0 win over No. 4 Johnson & Wales in the semi-finals and a 3-1 win over No. 2 Emmanuel in the conference championship.

KESSLER AND HESS POWER MEN’S VOLLEYBALL TO GNAC FINALS

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore right side hitter Ryan Kessler (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and freshman middle hitter Julian Hess (Santa Monica, Calif.) combined for 21 kills and hitting an incredible .913 to power the Emmanuel College men’s volleyball team past Emerson College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-12), Thursday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center in front of a crowd of 175 fans. With the victory, the Saints improve to 18-13 on the year and advance to the GNAC Finals on Saturday afternoon against No. 1 seed Rivier University. The loss ends the Lions season with an overall record of 12-17.

GURULE NAMED GNAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College freshman Ernie Gurule was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on April 6th. Over the course of last week's matches, Gurule used his stellar defense to help lead the Saints to an undefeated week, as Emmanuel went 3-0 in GNAC contests.

SAINTS SWEEP FALCONS IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Emmanuel College closed out the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus College in men’s volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match featured set scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-12, as the Saints finished the regular season at 17-13 overall and 12-2 in league play. With the loss, Albertus drops to 8-16 on the year and 0-14 in league play.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL RANKS 5th IN REGIONAL RANKINGS

BOSTON, Mass. – In the first 2013 NCAA Regional Rankings for Division III men's volleyball, Emmanuel College ranked fifth in the East Region with an 11-12 overall record and 10-7 in-region. Emmanuel is currently 16th in the nation according to the latest AVCA Top 15 poll.

FIFTH-RANKED SAINTS HANG ON FOR 3-2 WIN OVER LASERS

NEWTON, Mass.- The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team edged the Lasers of Lasell College, 3-2, improving to 11-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The five sets were close throughout, with the fifth going down to the wire: 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 18-25, and 13-15. The Saints, who were ranked 5th in New England in this week’s NCAA Regional ranking, now stand at 16-13 on the season. The Lasers fall to 5-7 in conference play while going to 12-13 overall.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM DOWNS WENTWORTH IN COLLEGES OF THE FENWAY BATTLE

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Ryan Kessler (Santa Clarita, Calif.) recorded 10 kills on 17 swings to help pace the Emmanuel College men’s volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action played at Tansey Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

SAINTS SPLIT IN SENIOR DAY TRI-MATCH

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College played host to Albertus Magnus College and 15th-ranked Rivier University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball tri-match played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday afternoon. The host Saints split, capturing a 3-0 win over Alberts Magnus, before falling to Rivier, 3-1.

SAINTS STRETCH GNAC WIN STREAK TO SIX MATCHES

NEWTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Saints rolled to a three-set sweep of Mount Ida College on Thursday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball action. The Saints took the three sets with decisive scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-15. Emmanuel now stands at 13-12 overall and the Saints improve to 8-1 in GNAC action with the win. This was the Saints’ sixth-straight conference win. The host Mustangs dropped to 5-19 on the season and 1-10 in the league with the loss.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM SWEEPS GNAC TRI-MATCH

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Emmanuel College Saints cruised to consecutive sweeps in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball tri-match played at the Wildcat Center on the campus of Johnson & Wales University. JWU won the first match of the day, with a 5-set win over Lasell College. Emmanuel took the middle match with a 3-0 sweep of the Lasers (27-25, 25-16, 25-19), before topping the host Wildcats 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) in the final match of the day.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO No. 14 MIT, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its final match before spring break, the nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT men’s volleyball team defeated local rival Emmanuel College, 25-19, 31-33, 25-20, 25-18, on Thursday night. The Engineers extended their winning streak to seven while improving to 19-11 on the year. The Saints, who received 11 votes in this week's AVCA national poll, saw their ledger lower to 9-12 for the season.

SAINTS SWEEP MUSTANGS, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Volleyball Team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Mount Ida College on Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action played in Emmanuel’s Jean Yawkey Center. The win boosted the Saints to 9-11 on the season and 4-1 in league play. Mount Ida extended their slide to 11 matches, dropping to 4-16 overall and 0-7 in the GNAC with the conference loss. The all-time series between these to programs dates back to 2003 and stands at 18-1, in favor of the Saints.

WINGARD RECEIVES SECOND GNAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK NOD

Emmanuel College freshman Barrett Wingard (Dallastown, Pa.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Wingard received the honor after leading Emmanuel to a 4-2 week, which included a win over #13 MIT.
