GURULE NAMED GNAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College freshman Ernie Gurule was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on April 6th. Over the course of last week's matches, Gurule used his stellar defense to help lead the Saints to an undefeated week, as Emmanuel went 3-0 in GNAC contests.
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman Ernie Gurule was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on April 6th. Over the course of last week's matches, Gurule used his stellar defense to help lead the Saints to an undefeated week, as Emmanuel went 3-0 in GNAC contests.
The 5'9 rookie libero started in all three matches last week and saw action in 11 sets. The Los Angeles, California native averaged 2.91 digs per kills per set, totaling 32 digs for the week, including a match-high 16-dig performance in the Saints' 3-2 win at Lasell College.
Gurule has played in all 30 of Emmanuel's matches this season and currently has a season total of 130 digs, averaging 1.24 per set. He has also dished out 36 assists for the Saints this year.
Gurule and the Saints finished the regular season at 17-13 overall and 12-2 in GNAC matches. Emmanuel earned a No. 2 seed in this week's GNAC Tournament. The Saints have a bye in tonight's quarterfinal action, but will host the winner of No. 3 Wentworth / No. 6 Emerson on Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
