SAINTS RUN WELL AT ROGER WILLIAMS INVITATIONAL
BRISTOL, R.I. - The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams traveled to Colt State Park in Rhode Island on Saturday morning for their second meet of the 2014 campaign, running in the Roger Williams University Invitational. Both teams battled through oppressive race day conditions with temperatures in the 80s and humidity at over 75%. The Emmanuel Women finished the day with 5th place team finish out of the nine competing schools, while the Emmanuel men ran 7th out of nine teams.

Both teams battled through oppressive race day conditions with temperatures in the 80s and humidity at over 75%. The Emmanuel Women finished the day with 5th place team finish out of the nine competing schools, while the Emmanuel men ran 7th out of nine teams.
Senior captain Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) paced the Saints women with the only sub-22 minute 5k time. Egan finished 12th overall out of the field of 109 with her time of 21:57. Rookie Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished 2nd for the Saints and 17th overall, crossing the line in 22:05. Senior Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.) and freshman Haylee Krenzer (Haverhill, Mass.) finished just one second apart in the 20th and 21st spots with times of 22:14 and 22:15, respectively. Junior captain Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) rounded out the top five scorers for the Saints with her 27th place finish in a time of 22:45.
On the men's side, junior captain Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) raced to an 8th place finish out of the field of 91 male competitors. Colford finished his 5k race in a time of 17:29 to pace the Saints. Senior captain Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) crossed the line second for EC with his top-twenty time of 18:12. Junior Richard Thompson (Norwood, Mass.) ran third for the Saints in 18:43. Junior Max Bukowiec (York, Maine) and senior Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) finished in 19:02 and 19:26, respectively to cap the five scorers for the Saints.
Both teams will take the next two weeks off from competition, but will return to race on Saturday, September 27th, when the Saints compete in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park.
