MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON IN REVIEW

Boston, Mass. – For the third consecutive year, the Emmanuel College men’s volleyball program fought its way to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament finals. After upsetting No. 2 Wentworth Institute of Technology in the conference semifinals, the 3rd-seeded Saints suffered a four-set loss to Rivier University in the championship match. The squad went 18-12 overall with an 11-5 record against GNAC opponents. With no seniors on the roster, the young Saints will not lose anybody to graduation this year and hope to return all fifteen veterans for another run at the conference title.

JACKSON & WHITERMORE NAMED TO GNAC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior outside hitter Ashanti Jackson (Sacramento, Calif.) and junior outside hitter Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) have been named to the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Volleyball All-Conference team as announced by the conference office earlier today.

EMMANUEL FALLS TO RIVIER, 3-1, IN GNAC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

NASHUA, N.H. – Third-seeded Emmanuel College fell to No. 1-seeded Rivier University, 3-1, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon in the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Saints, who were making their fifth appearance in the GNAC Finals in the past six years, now end their 2014 campaign at 18-12 overall. Rivier will advance to the NCAA Tournament with a 29-6 overall record.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES TO GNAC FINALS WITH 3-2 WIN OVER WENTWORTH

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) had 14 kills, four aces, and nine digs and junior Ashanti Jackson (Sacramento, Calif.) added 14 kills to help pace the third-seeded Emmanuel College men’s volleyball team to a 3-2 win over second-seeded Wentworth Institute of Technology in Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinal played at Tansey Gymnasium.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES TO GNAC SEMIFINALS WITH 3-0 WIN OVER EMERSON

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College upended Emerson College, 3-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday night in the Jean Yawkey Center. The 3rd-seeded Saints defeated the 6th-seeded Lions by set scores of: 25-15, 25-18 and 25-18. Emmanuel improves to 17-11 on the season with the win and will advance to take on No. 2 Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday night in the GNAC semifinal round.

VOLLEYBALL CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH SPLIT AT JWU

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men’s volleyball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match with Mount Ida and Emmanuel at the Wildcat Center on Saturday afternoon. The two wins puts JWU at 19 on the year, tying the record for wins in a season set in the 2005-06 campaign. With the sweep Johnson & Wales is now 19-10 overall and 11-5 in the GNAC. Emmanuel moves to 16-11 and 11-5 in the GNAC, while Mount Ida falls to 8-21 overall and 2-14 in conference play.

LEOPARDS SNAP SAINTS' STREAK IN 3-1 WIN

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Sam Pisker’s (Mullica Hill, N.J.) 10 kills, four digs and three aces led the Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Emmanuel in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The win snapped a 13-match losing streak for the Leopards against the Saints as the Black & Gold picked up their first win over their Colleges of the Fenway rival since January 21, 2006.

WHITERMORE & McGARRY EARN GNAC WEEKLY HONORS

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior outside hitter Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) and sophomore middle hitter Garrett McGarry (Chicago, Ill.) were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in this week’s Men’s Volleyball Report. Whitermore was tabbed the GNAC Player of the Week while McGarry earned the honor of GNAC Defensive Player of the Week.

SAINTS COMPLETE TRI-MATCH SWEEP WITH 3-0 WIN OVER EMERSON

BOSTON, Mass. - Following a 3-0 win over Anna Maria College in the first match of Saturday afternoon's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match, the Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team completed the sweep, boasting a 3-0 win over Emerson College in the nightcap. With the pair of wins on the day, the Saints have now won four-straight GNAC matches, improving to 15-9 overall and 10-3 in league play.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROLLS TO 3-0 WIN OVER ANNA MARIA

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team took care of Anna Maria College in three sets to improve to 14-9 on the season and 9-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With set scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-13, the Saints swept the visiting AMCATs, who dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-10 in the league. The match was the opener in a Saturday afternoon GNAC tri-match played in Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center.

STRONG SWINGS POWER SAINTS PAST LASERS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Volleyball Team cruised to a 3-0 win over visiting Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Thursday night. The win boosted the host Saints to 13-9 on the season and 8-3 in league play. The loss dropped Lasell to 16-7 overall and even at 5-5 in the GNAC.

SAINTS SWEEP MUSTANGS, 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida's men's volleyball team played their first home match since March 4th and the Mustangs suffered a 3-0 loss to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Emmanuel College on Tuesday night. The Saints jumped in front with 25-16 and 25-17 victories in the opening sets. Mount Ida was in the final game, however, until the end, tying the set at 18-all before conceding five straight points, and then nearly making up the margin again before falling 25-22.

JACKSON SELECTED GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College’s Ashanti Jackson was voted the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week. The honor comes after the junior captain led the Saints to a 3-1 week in conference action, posting wins over Emerson, Wentworth and Albertus Magnus.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL SPLITS IN GNAC TRI-MATCH

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Emmanuel College defeated the Albertus Magnus College, 3-1, and dropped a three-setter to Rivier University on Sunday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s volleyball action. With the split, the Saints now stand at 11-9 on the season and 6-3 in conference play.

JACKSON POWERS SAINTS TO 3-2 WIN OVER WENTWORTH

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Ashanti Jackson (Sacramento, Calif.) slammed down a season-high 19 kills and hit .400 to lead the host Emmanuel College Saints to a 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12) victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) battle and Colleges of the Fenway rivalry was played in Emmanuel’s Jean Yawkey Center on Thursday night.

SAINTS DOWN LIONS IN CROSSTOWN VOLLEYBALL RIVALRY

BOSTON, Mass. – The balanced offensive attack powered the Emmanuel College Men’s Volleyball Team to a 3-1 win at Emerson College on Tuesday night. After falling 21-25 in the opening set, the Saints recovered to take the next three sets from the host Lions, 25-13, 25-15, 25-19. With the loss, the Lions are now 8-7 overall and 3-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, while Emmanuel improves to 9-8 on the year and 4-2 in the GNAC.
