WHITERMORE & McGARRY EARN GNAC WEEKLY HONORS
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior outside hitter Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) and sophomore middle hitter Garrett McGarry (Chicago, Ill.) were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in this week’s Men’s Volleyball Report. Whitermore was tabbed the GNAC Player of the Week while McGarry earned the honor of GNAC Defensive Player of the Week.
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior outside hitter Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) and sophomore middle hitter Garrett McGarry (Chicago, Ill.) were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in this week's Men's Volleyball Report. Whitermore was tabbed the GNAC Player of the Week while McGarry earned the honor of GNAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Whitermore exploded for an average of 3.14 kills, 2.71 and 0.71 blocks per set this week, leading the Saints to 4-consecutive GNAC wins. The junior outside hitter hit .240 for the week with 22 kills in 50 swings in just 7 sets played this week. Whitermore notched a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs in the Saints' win over Emerson. To round off the week, Whitermore smashed down 10 kills to go along with his 6 digs in a 3-0 win over Lasell.
On the season, Whitermore leads the Saints averaging 2.74 kills per set while ranking seventh overall in the GNAC. The junior is currently hitting at a .244 clip and has notched 76 digs, 27 total blocks and 17 aces on the season.
In his three matches played this week, McGarry led the Saints at the net with an average of 1.11 blocks per set, including 4 blocks assisted in a win over Mount Ida, 1 solo and 3 blocks assisted in a win over Lasell and 1 solo and 1 block assisted in a win over Emerson. McGarry also slammed down 13 kills in his 20 swings for a .550 hitting percentage on the week.
During the 2014 campaign, McGarry has been a monster at the net, leading Emmanuel with 75 total blocks which averages out to 1.00 blocks per set to rank fourth in the GNAC. The middle hitter is currently swinging at a .278 hitting percentage and is averaging 1.20 kills per set.
The Saints are currently 15-9 on the year including a 10-3 conference record. The squad returns to action on Thursday, April 3 when they face Wentworth Institute of Technology in an important GNAC showdown as the winner will be in control of their own destiny for the No. 2 seed in the GNAC Tournament.
