SAINTS BATTLE TOUGH COMPETITON AT SHRINERS INVITITATIONAL

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams faced intense competition at the Shriners Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. Thirty-seven women's teams and thirty-four men's teams raced in the varsity meets. The Emmanuel women scored 703 points and placed 25th, while the Emmanuel men recorded 606 points and placed 21st overall.
Emmanuel freshman Ameena Dye (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Saints in the women's meet. Dye, who was named the GNAC Rookie of the Week for the past two consecutive weeks, finished 77th out of the field of 258 total runners with a time of 20:27. Junior captain Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) ran second for the Saints and 121st overall with a personal best time of 20:56.
Rookie senior Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.) captured third place for Emmanuel, running the 5k in 21:43. Sophomores Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) and Danielle Martin (York, Me.) rounded out the top five for Emmanuel, running the course in 22:20 and 22:23, respectively.
The Emmanuel men were paced by senior Stephen Armstrong (Revere, Mass.), who was returning to competition for the first time this season. Armstrong ran his 4.9-mile race in 27:50, placing 126th out of the field of 255 total runners. Freshman Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.), who was voted last week's GNAC Runner of the Week, ran second for the Saints, coming in just two second behind Armstrong.
Sophomores Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.) scored third and fourth for the Saints, running personal bests of 28:05 and 28:08, respectively. Senior Abdi Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.) ran his first race of the 2011 season and placed fifth for Emmanuel with a time of 28:25.
The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will return to action on Saturday, October 1st, at the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted by Gordon College.
