CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE IN CODFISH BOWL
DORCHESTER, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams returned from two weeks without competition to race in the Annual Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park on Saturday morning. This was the 45th running of the annual meet for the men and the 33rd running for the women. Several collegiate programs traveled north just to compete on the historic Franklin Park course, including the College of Charleston and Texas Lutheran.
DORCHESTER, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams returned from two weeks without competition to race in the Annual Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park on Saturday morning. This was the 45th running of the annual meet for the men and the 33rd running for the women. Several collegiate programs traveled north just to compete on the historic Franklin Park course, including the College of Charleston and Texas Lutheran.
Considering the tough Division I and II competition, the Saints faired well overall, with the majority of the EC runners showing race-day improvement. The Emmanuel women took 9th place out of the 12 competing programs, while the Saints men finished 8th of 11.
Senior captain Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) paced the Emmanuel women, finishing 41st overall with her 5k time of 21:22. Rookie senior Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.) ran second for the Saints and 53rd overall with her season-best time of 21:54. Freshman Haylee Krenzer (Haverhill, Mass.) took third for Emmanuel, finishing in 22:18. Juniors Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) and Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) rounded out the top five for the Saints with their 22:31 and 22:52 finishes.
For the EC men, Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) led the way. The junior captain toured the 8k course in 27:51 to place 28th out of the field of 107 total runners. Senior captain Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) ran second for the Saints with his 29:19 finish. Junior Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) crossed the line third for Emmanuel with a time of 30:01. The junior tandem of Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) and Max Bukowiec (York, Maine) took the fourth and fifth scoring positions for the Saints, finishing in 30:49 and 31:30, respectively.
The Saints will be back in action one week from Saturday, on October 11th, when they travel to Standish, Maine for the Saint Joseph's College Runnin' Monks Invitational.
