EMMANUEL WELL REPRESENTED ON GNAC ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

WINTHROP, Mass. - A total of 822 student-athletes have been named to the 2014-15 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team, as announced by GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh earlier this week. Emmanuel College was well represented on the list with 109 representatives, a conference-best, making up 13.25% of the GNAC’s Academic All-Conference selections.

CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAMS WRAP SEASON AT NCAA REGIONAL MEET

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Teams competed in their final meets of the 2014 season, taking on New England’s top competition in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship, hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock Regional High School on Saturday afternoon. The competitors battled it out on the hilly course under sunny skies and a high temperature of 35 degrees.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES IN ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Women’s Cross Country Team took on a longer distance on Saturday afternoon, competing in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship, hosted by Westfield State University. The 6k distance proved challenging for the Saints, but Emmanuel hung tough, racing to a 42nd place team finish. Williams College men and women swept the championships at Stanley Park. The Williams men’s team out-ran 51 other teams to capture their second consecutive title, while the women beat out 56 squads to claim their first crown since 2008.

BENASSI, COLFORD, DAROCHA EARN GNAC CROSS COUNTRY HONORS

BOSTON, Mass. – Following the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship meet this past Saturday, several members of the Emmanuel College Saints were honored with post-season awards. Both Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.) and Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) earned GNAC All-Conference honors for their top-ten finishes on championship day. Benassi was also named the 2014 GNAC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year, as the top first-year finisher in the meet, while Head Coach Tony DaRocha was voted the 2014 GNAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TAKES 4TH AT GNAC CHAMPIONSHIP

STANDISH, Maine – The Emmanuel College Men’s Cross Country Team raced to a 4th place finish on Saturday afternoon at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship meet. Johnson & Wales University totaled 44 team points to win the 2014 GNAC title on a soggy course on the campus of Saint Joseph’s College.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY EDGED BY NORWICH IN GNAC CHAMPIONSHIP

STANDISH, Maine – Emmanuel College just missed on a repeat of its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Cross Country Championship, as the Saints were edged by just one point at the conference meet on the campus of Saint Joseph’s College on Saturday afternoon. Norwich University tallied 66 points to claim the 2014 GNAC title, while EC finished in second place with 67 team points.

BENASSI VOTED GNAC RUNNER AND ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel’s Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.) has been named this week’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Cross Country Runner AND Rookie of the Week. The senior is in her first season of varsity competition on the Saints Women’s Cross Country Team and has finished among the top three for the Saints in every meet this year.

EMMANUEL HOSTS 9TH ANNUAL SAINTS INVITATIONAL

DORCHESTER, Mass. – Emmanuel College hosted the 9th running of the Saints Invitational on the historic cross country course at Franklin Park on Friday evening. Over 360 runners represented 19 colleges and universities, with 17 women's teams competing in the 5k and 16 men's teams in the 8k event. Wheaton College took team honors on the women's side, placing four runners in the top ten and scoring 30 total points. Babson College won the men's race with the Beavers sealing up the four positions among the top 13 racers, as the team combined for 65 total points.

COLFORD, SAINTS ROLL AT RUNNIN’ MONKS INVITE

STANDISH, Maine – Junior Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) took individual honors and led the Emmanuel Men’s Cross Country Team to a share of the team championship in the 12th Annual Runnin’ Monks Invitational on Saturday morning. Saint Joseph’s College, Emmanuel College and University of New England finished in a three-way tie for first place with 67 points apiece. The Saints took second place in the women’s race with 47 points and all five scorers running in the top 15 positions.

COLFORD SELECTED GNAC RUNNER OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) has been voted the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Colford’s weekly conference honor comes after leading the Saints at the 45th Annual Codfish Bowl on Saturday. Colford raced to a 28th place finish out of the field of 107 total runners on the historic Franklin Park course.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE IN CODFISH BOWL

DORCHESTER, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams returned from two weeks without competition to race in the Annual Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park on Saturday morning. This was the 45th running of the annual meet for the men and the 33rd running for the women. Several collegiate programs traveled north just to compete on the historic Franklin Park course, including the College of Charleston and Texas Lutheran.

COACH KRAMER HONORED BY BOSTON ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

BOSTON, Mass. – Longtime Emmanuel College Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Alice Kramer was honored just last week by the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) for her dedicated volunteerism and invested commitment to the Boston Marathon. Kramer, who is in her 14th season as an Assistant Coach with the Saints, has given over thirty years to the B.A.A., volunteering in marathon preparation and throughout the course each and every Marathon Monday.

SAINTS RUN WELL AT ROGER WILLIAMS INVITATIONAL

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams traveled to Colt State Park in Rhode Island on Saturday morning for their second meet of the 2014 campaign, running in the Roger Williams University Invitational. Both teams battled through oppressive race day conditions with temperatures in the 80s and humidity at over 75%. The Emmanuel Women finished the day with 5th place team finish out of the nine competing schools, while the Emmanuel men ran 7th out of nine teams.

COLFORD TABBED GNAC CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending on September 6th. Colford, the 2013 GNAC Runner of the Year, racked up this same weekly honor on five different occasions last season. This most recent GNAC Runner of the Week recognition came after Colford paced the Saints at the Roger Williams Invitational on last Saturday morning in Bristol, R.I.
