TENNIS TEAM ROLLS TO 7-2 WIN OVER BLUE JAYS

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team handed Saint Joseph College a 7-2 loss on Monday afternoon. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match was played on the campus of Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, Conn. The win improved the Saints' record to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the GNAC, while the loss dropped the Blue Jays to 4-9 on the season and 1-6 in league play.
All three seniors on the Emmanuel squad, who were honored prior to Sunday's home match in Boston, saw action on Monday in Connecticut. The trio played in the doubles matches, which opened the Columbus Day GNAC match. Seniors Victoria Trull (Lowell, Mass.) and Lauren Lesko (Plymouth, Mass.) were defeated by Saint Joseph's Meghan Toth and Kameshia Cooper, 8-5, in the No. 1 doubles match.
The Blue Jays picked up its only other point of the day at second doubles, when Lisa Wawrzynowski and Emely Chenard downed the Emmanuel freshmen pair of Kelsey Barrasso (Nahant, Mass.) and Alex Jennings (Granby, Conn.), 8-2. Senior captain Erin Thornton (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Brittany Rothstein (Tiverton, R.I.) earned the Saints their first point of the day with an 8-2 victory at third dubs.
Trailing 2-1 in the match heading into the singles play, the momentum switched to the visitors, as Emmanuel swept all six singles matches in straight-set fashion. Collectively, the Blue Jays won just 8 games during the singles matches.
Emmanuel's top player, Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.), earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Toth in No. 1 singles. Freshman Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) easily took care of Wawrzynowski, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Sophomore Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) upended Cooper, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 3 slot.
Junior Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) topped Chenard, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 4 singles. Sophomore Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over April Loteczka in 5th singles action. Freshman Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Me.) improved to 8-1 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Delina Andrews at No. 6 singles.
Emmanuel will face tough competition this Wednesday afternoon (10/12), when the Saints travel to Providence, Rhode Island to take on the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University in a 3:30 PM start. The Saints will then host Wentworth Institute of Technology in a non-conference match the following day at 6:30 PM on the Winsor School Tennis Courts.
