BOSTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced the 2012 Women's All-Conference Teams and Emmanuel student-athletes made a strong showing on teams. The Saints were well-represented, with Emmanuel players accounting for four of the sixteen All-Conference honorees. Sophomore Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) was a 1st Team All-Conference selection, while Juniors Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) and Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.), as well as sophomore Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Me.) were named to the 2nd Team All-GNAC.
Emmanuel's All-Conference representation has grown consistently over the past three years. The Saints had two players named All-GNAC in 2010, three honorees in 2011 and now four student-athletes voted to the All-Conference Teams for the 2012 season.
Hadlock is making her second appearance on the 1st Team in as many years, as she was also selected one of the conference's top six players after her rookie season last year. The sophomore standout tore up the court in the Saints' No. 1 singles and doubles positions throughout the year. Hadlock was voted the GNAC Player of the Week twice this season (September 10th and October 15th). She led the Saints to another appearance in the GNAC Semifinals and was named to the 2012 GNAC All-Tournament Team. Hadlock finished the season with an overall record of 10-4 and a GNAC record of 4-2.
After being named the team's Most Improved Player as a sophomore, Woznicki started in Emmanuel's No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles positions this season. The junior captain, who was named to the All-GNAC 2nd Team, is receiving her first all-conference nod. Woznicki was named the conference's Player of the Week on September 24th this season and finished the year with an 11-7 record, including an 8-6 mark from her No. 2 singles position and a 3-1 mark in No. 1 singles matches. Woznicki and Hadlock teamed up for 7 wins in Emmanuel's 1st doubles position, giving Woznicki a total of 18 overall wins and Hadlock a combined 17 wins in 2012.
This is also Jenny Konecnik's first All-GNAC recognition. The junior's well-deserved selection followed a stellar 2012 campaign. Playing in the Saints' No. 4 singles slot and multiple doubles positions, Konecnik notched more wins than any other Emmanuel player, rolling to a 13-3 individual record, including going undefeated at 7-0 during her regular season GNAC matches. Konecnik was versatile enough to team up with three different doubles partners and notched an 11-6 record in doubles matches. Konecnik's efforts in both singles and doubles action gave the junior a combined total of 24 wins this season.
Like Woznicki and Konecnik, Hewes is also a first time All-GNAC selection. After receiving GNAC weekly honors four different times last year, Hewes carried the momentum into her second collegiate season, moving from Emmanuel's No. 6 to No. 5 positions. She wrapped up a sensational sophomore campaign with a 12-4 record, including going on a 10-match win streak to end the season. Hewes was also a GNAC Weekly Honor Roll mention this season, after recording a "golden match" in a No. 5 singles win her over Mount Ida College opponent.
After a GNAC tournament run which ended in the semifinal round for the second-straight year, the Saints finished the season at 11-7 overall. Impressively, Emmanuel's four All-GNAC selections are all underclassmen, which makes for a promising future for the Saints' Women's Tennis program.
Saints' senior captain Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team, an honor given to individual from each of the nine GNAC women's tennis programs. The three-time 2nd Team All-GNAC selection went 9-7 this year, playing in Emmanuel's No. 3 position.
