SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS ALBERTUS MAGNUS

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Emmanuel Softball Team recorded a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) wins on Monday afternoon, defeating Albertus Magnus College, 9-0 and 15-0 at West Haven High School. Both games were ended early, as the Saints improved to 9-6 on the season and 5-3 in GNAC play. The two losses dropped the Falcons to 0-16 overall and 0-12 in the league.
Sophomore third-baseman Chelsey Guselli (Methuen, Mass.) led the Emmanuel offense, as she went 6 for 8 from the plate over the course of the two games, notching two doubles and trio of runs batted in. Senior short-stop Danielle Andruskiwec (Orange, Conn.) posted 4 hits in her 8 at-bats, including a pair of doubles and five runs batted in. Sophomore Heather Hamel (Belchertown, Mass.) went 4 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI in the nightcap to pace the Saints.
Game one featured the Saints picking up two runs in the third, three in the fourth and four more in the fifth, as the visitors came away with the 9-0 shut-out win. Emmanuel then drove in five runs in the third inning of game two to take an early 5-0 lead. The Saints tacked on two more runs in the fifth, before putting together a huge eight-run sixth inning and stopping the game short at 15-0.
Emmanuel pitchers Kelly Lloid (Issaquah, Wash.) and Kathryn Copp (Fremont, N.H.) each went the distance in their respective starts. Copp pitched a two-hitter in game one, striking out 5 of her 17 batters faced over the 5-inning contest. Lloid got the win in game two, as the rookie threw a one-hitter, striking out 7 of her 20 batters faced during the 6-inning game.
The Saints are back in action on Tuesday afternoon, when Emmanuel plays at Suffolk University in a 3pm start. Emmanuel is home again this weekend, hosting Emerson College on Friday night and Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon.
