SPOFFORD RESIGNS FROM SOFTBALL HEAD COACHING POSITION

BOSTON, Mass. – After leading the Emmanuel College softball team to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship game earlier this spring, Head Coach Rob Spofford has announced his resignation from the position after serving at the coaching helm for the past four season. Spofford notified the Athletic Department staff and Softball team of his decision on Wednesday, May 18.

DAVIS, KILCOYNE, SKEY EARN ALL-GNAC HONORS

WINTHROP, Mass. – Senior Cat Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) were named All-GNAC First Team members, as voted upon by the league's 12 head coaches, the conference office announced on Monday. Freshman designated player Ashley Skey (Brookline, N.H.) earned Third Team All-GNAC honors and classmate Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

HISTORIC SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE FOR SOFTBALL IN GNAC CHAMPIONSHIP; SAINTS FALL TO JWU IN TITLE GAME

EAST BOSTON, Mass. - An eight-run offensive outburst in the bottom of the first inning sent Johnson & Wales on its way to its second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Sunday morning with a 12-3 victory over Emmanuel College at East Boston Memorial Park. The Saints historic season comes to an end with the best campaign in program history, finishing with a 26-17 record while the Wildcats improve to 31-10 and now will wait to see who they draw in the NCAA tournament.

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – After a seven-run scoring spree in the fourth inning, the Johnson and Wales University softball team blanked Emmanuel College, 8-0 in Game 9 of the 2016 GNAC Tournament Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

SOFTBALL DOWNS SUFFOLK 9-1 TO ADVANCE TO FIRST-EVER GNAC CHAMPIONSHIP

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – After falling earlier in the day to Johnson & Wales University, the Emmanuel College softball team rebounded for a 9-1 victory over No. 1 seeded Suffolk University at East Boston Memorial Park to advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament championship for the first time in program history. The loss ends the Rams record-setting season with a 33-9 mark, a new program-record for wins in a single-season. EC improves to 26-16 overall, also the program’s highest win total in its’ history.

SOFTBALL STORMS BY NORWICH & SUFFOLK TO MOVE TO GNAC TOURNAMENT WINNER’S BRACKET

BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 5 Emmanuel College softball team stormed past No. 4 Norwich University, 5-0, and followed it up with a 9-7 win over No. 1 Suffolk University Friday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament action at Roche Playground field. With the wins, the Saints improve to 25-15 on the year and advance to the winner’s bracket of the GNAC tournament. The Cadets fall to 17-18 while the host Rams now stand at 31-8 overall.

SOFTBALL ADVANCES IN GNAC TOURNEY WITH 5-4 WIN OVER MOUNT IDA

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College softball team posted a 5-4 victory over Mount Ida College Tuesday evening in First Round action of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament at Roberto Clemente Field. The No. 5 Saints improve to 23-15 on the year and advance to the weekend bracket while the loss ends the year for the No. 8 Mustangs, closing the season with a 13-22 record.

DAVIS RECORDS 200th HIT; SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH FALCONS

New Haven, Conn. – The Emmanuel College softball team closed out the 2016 regular season with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader split with Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field. The visiting Saints scored a 4-1 triumph in the opener and the host Falcons took advantage of a late Emmanuel miscue to earn a 2-1 victory in the finale.

SOFTBALL SETS PROGRAM RECORD WITH WIN VS SIMMONS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College softball team made history Wednesday evening, setting a new single-season record for team victories following an 8-6 win over Simmons College in the first game of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Roberto Clemente Field. In game two, Simmons first year third baseman Taylor LeBrun (Milford, Mass.) and senior center fielder Heather White (Westfield, Mass.) each hit a two-run home run to lead the Sharks softball team to a 4-2 victory over EC to gain a doubleheader split this evening at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks are now 13-18 overall and 7-13 in league play, while Emmanuel is 21-14 and 13-7.

KILCOYNE NAMED GNAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College junior pitcher Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon. This marks the third time during Kilcoyne's career that she's been named GNAC Pitcher of the Week, also earning the honor once as a rookie and once last season.

KILCOYNE NO HITS LASELL, KIESELBACK COMPLETES SWEEP

Auburndale, Mass. - Pitchers Jill Kilcoyne and Megan Kieselback combined for a pair of shutouts to lead the Emmanuel College softball squad to a doubleheader sweep of Lasell College on Sunday afternoon. The Lasers fall to 7-23 and 4-14 in the GNAC while the Saints improve to 20-13 and 12-6 in the GNAC.

SAINTS SOFTBALL SWEEPS SAINT JOSEPH’S ON SENIOR DAY

BOSTON, Mass. – Two strong pitching performances propelled the Emmanuel College softball team to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep over visiting Saint Joseph’s College (ME) on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints notched a 1-0 win in game one before taking game two, 2-1, sweeping the Monks for the first time in program-history. EC improves to 18-13 overall while SJM falls to 17-14 and both teams now stand at 10-6 in GNAC play.

SKEY, SAINTS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH ANNA MARIA

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College softball team closed out an eight-game week with a doubleheader split with the Anna Maria AMCats at Clemente Field on Sunday. The 1-1 afternoon sends the Saints to 16-13 overall and 8-6 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The AMCats move to 4-21 and 2-10 in GNAC play.

BLUEJAYS SWOOP IN FOR SWEEP OVER SOFTBALL

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph softball team set a school record by winning its 13th consecutive game as the Blue Jays swept Emmanuel College Friday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader.

SAINTS SETTLE FOR TWINBILL SPLIT VS NORWICH

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College softball team settled for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader split on Wednesday evening against Norwich University at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints picked up a 4-3 win in game one but couldn’t complete the sweep as the Cadets rebounded for a 6-4 game two win. The Saints stand at 13-10 overall and 5-3 in GNAC play while NU is now 6-12 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC.
