WOMEN'S LACROSSE COMES UP SHORT IN HIGH-SCORING BATTLE WITH RIVIER

NASHUA, N.H. – The Emmanuel Women’s Lacrosse Team suffered a 25–22 loss to Rivier College in the final game of the regular season. The high-scoring Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) battle was played on Saturday afternoon at Rivier’s Raider Field. The Raiders led 15–8 at halftime and held off a strong second half surge by the Saints to secure a spot in the upcoming GNAC playoffs.
The Saints scored first, with a goal from sophomore Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) coming in just the second minute of play. However, Rivier quickly tied things up. The lead would change hands four more times over the next several minutes, before a 5-0 run by the hosts late in the second half put the Raiders up for good. After trailing by seven at the break, the Saints went on a 6-2 run to end the game, including scoring four goals in the final four minutes, but were unable to close the deficit.
The visiting Saints were led by senior midfielder Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), who tied her own single-game record with 8 goals on the day. Carr’s eight markers also broke her single season program record, as she now has 39 goals this year. Junior captain Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) tied her single game career-high with 6 goals to go along with 4 assists and 5 ground balls in the effort. Freshman Madison Altwies (Southington, Conn.) added 3 goals and an assist and classmate Alexia Basile (West Hartford, Conn.) netted 3 goals. Konecnik and Marykate McNulty (Madison, Conn.) added 1 goal apiece.
Emmanuel’s sophomore goalie Hillary Dandurant (Merrimac, N.H.) put up 13 saves in goal for the Saints.
Rivier was led in attack by the trio of Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsbore, Mass.) 9 goals, 1 assist, Lauren Brett (Otisfield, Me.) 8 goals, 2 assists, and Hannah Wyatt (sophomore, Merrimack, NH) 4 goals, 8 assists. Jessica Amaral (E. Providence, R.I.) 2 goals, 1 assist, and Vanessa Viola (Nashua, N.H.) and Christina Demmons (Nashua, N.H.) with 1 goal each.
The Raiders received very strong play in goal from junior Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, Mass.), who finished with 11 saves.
The Saints finish the regular season at 5-9 overall and 2-7 in GNAC play. Emmanuel has secured the 8th seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. This will be the program’s first-ever GNAC post-season appearance. Emmanuel will face the tournament’s top seed on Tuesday in the GNAC Quarterfinals. The Saints’ opponent is contingent upon other teams’ final regular season games scheduled for this Sunday afternoon.
