March 31, 2012
PAXTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse Team used a balanced scoring attack to earn a 15-8 win over Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon. Freshmen Madison Altwies (Southington, Conn) and Marykate McNulty (Madison, Conn.) each tallied four goals for Emmanuel, as the Saints improved to 3-5 on the season and 2-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) continued her torrid scoring pace for Anna Maria netting 7 goals, to bring her season total 25, but the Amcats couldn't hold off a solid Emmanuel team today at AMCAT field. The loss dropped Anna Maria to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the GNAC.
Joining Schebel on the stats page was senior Alicia Savo (Mount Vernon, N.H.) with her first goal of the season and Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) who added an assist. Netminder Marlena Donjacour (San Francisco, Calif.) had 10 saves in the loss.
Along with Altwies and McNulty, Emmanuel's senior captain Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) notched five points (2 goals, 3 assists). Freshman Alexia Basile (West Hartford, Conn.) scored a trio of goals and junior Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) added a pair of markers for the Saints. Goalkeeper Hillary Dandurant (Merrimac, Mass.) stopped 12 shots in the win.
Schebel started the scoring converting an Acosta pass just :49 seconds in for a 1-0 AMC lead. Carr then tied the game scoring at 25:39 and Altwies gave Emmanuel their first lead at 2-1 five minutes into the half. Back-to-back goals by Savo and Schebel made it 3-2 AMC with 21 minutes to play in the half.
Emmanuel turned on the jets after that, outscoring Anna Maria 9-0 for the remainder of the period for a 11-3 halftime lead. Basile tallied 3 of the nine goals during the run for the Saints.
Anna Maria outscored Emmanuel 5-4 in the second half, but it was not enough, as Emmanuel pulled out the 15-8 win. Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday when they host St. Joe's (CT) at 4:00pm. Emmanuel will travel to Standish, Maine to take on Saint Joseph's College on April 3rd in a 7:30pm start.
