Saints Use Big Third Quarter to Fuel 78-55 Win at Anna Maria

THE LEAD –The Emmanuel College women's basketball team made it eight straight with their 78-55 victory Tuesday evening over host Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's hoops action at the Fuller Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- EC got out to a quick 6-0 lead behind a pair of buckets from junior guard Olivia Matela (Swampscott, Mass.) maintaining the multi-possession lead through much of the quarter before a 4-0 flurry over the final minute by AMC made it an 18-13 score at the end of one.
- Gina Parmenter connected on a three on the opening possession of the second quarter to make it 18-16 before Emmanuel opened up a double-digit lead at 32-22 after a layup from senior Cait Barker (Plainville, Conn.) with just over two minutes remaining in the half.
- The AMCats responded closing out the first half on a 7-0 run to make it a 32-29 game at the break before Parmenter tied the score at 32-all early in the third quarter with another three-point field goal.
- Over the next six minutes, the Saints put together a 24-5 run that included back-to-back threes from Matela and Barker to push the lead to a more comfortable 56-37 score with under two to play in the third.
- Emmanuel used the big third quarter to cruise in the fourth, capping off the 78-55 GNAC road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Emmanuel improved to 14-0 all-time vs. the AMCats since Anna Maria joined the GNAC for the 2011-12 season.
- Matela finished the night with a team-high 19 points while Barker chipped in with 13.
- EC junior Kiera Eubanks (Portland, Maine) grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with 12 points for the double-double, her third of the year.
- Parmenter posted a game-high 21 points to lead the way for Anna Maria while Marinique Reddin and Chloe Giordano were in double-figures with 12 and 10, respectively.
- All 11 EC players that dressed scored in the win for Emmanuel.
- The Saints have won eight straight and 14 of 15 heading into the regular-season finale.
