THE LEAD – Four Saints finished in double figures on Wednesday night, helping Emmanuel women's basketball to a 72-55 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Yosinoff Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints came out of the gates quickly in the opening 4:54, starting the game on a 9-2 run to lead by seven points halfway through the first quarter. Later in the quarter, an EC 8-0 spurt, capped by a three-point play for junior Allison Wild (Tewksbury, Mass.), pushed the Saints lead to 14, but back-to-back baskets by USJ junior Jordan Ouellette (Bristol, Mass.) ended the quarter with EC holding a 20-10 lead.
- Emmanuel jumped out to their largest lead of the half with the first eight points of the second quarter over a 1:59 span, giving them a 28-10 edge. The Blue Jays fought back over the next 4:58, holding the Saints scoreless while cutting into the deficit with the use of a 9-0 run to trail 31-22. The Saints quickly reestablished their double-digit lead in the last 2:30, helping them to a 39-26 lead at halftime.
- Just as they did in the first quarter, the Saints came out firing to start the second half, opening play with a 12-2 run over 2:35, boosting their lead to the largest of the game at 51-28. In total, EC outscored the Blue Jays by eight in the third quarter as Emmanuel took a 57-36 lead into the fourth.
- The Saints 20-point lead held for much of the fourth quarter with USJ outscoring Emmanuel 19-15 in the final period, on the way to ECs 72-55 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Saints sophomore Yannie Chan (Hong Kong, China) finished with 14 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, and seven assists.
- Wild finished with 11 points in 18 minutes, off the bench. The junior forward added seven boards.
- Juniors Shakirah Ketant (Easton, Mass.) and Olivia Matela (Swampscott, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points each.
- As a team, Emmanuel dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Blue Jays 67-31 on the night.
- Ouellette finished with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-19 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds.
- Senior Amanda Fudge (Middletown, Conn.) scored 10 points in 28 minutes.

- The Saints return to play on Saturday, Feb. 11, welcoming Saint Joseph's of Maine to Yosinoff Court for a crucial GNAC game at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the Saints program will be celebrating Senior Day.
