THE LEAD – Shooting 54.8 percent in the second half, including starting the third quarter on a 7-0 run and the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run, the Emmanuel Saints finished up a four-game unbeaten homestand, thanks to tonight's 82-62 win over Norwich in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A close first quarter in the opening five minutes would result in the Saints and Cadets tied 11-11. Neither side led by more than a possession until an Emmanuel 7-0 scoring spurt over the last 4:28 of the quarter gave EC an 18-11 advantage after the first.
- The Cadets came out quickly in the second quarter, reducing the Saints lead to one possession on multiple occasions, cutting the deficit to 23-21 with 5:18 left in the half. But from that moment, it was all Emmanuel to finish off the half, as the Saints scored the final 11 points of the quarter. Five different Saints scored in the half-ending 11-0 run, as EC held a 34-21 edge at halftime.
- Emmanuel kept the momentum rolling into the early parts of the third quarter, scoring the first seven points of the half, opening up their largest lead of the night to that point, at 41-21. Norwich would steady themselves but could never get the deficit under double digits. The Saints entered the fourth up 60-47 after both the EC and NU posted 26 points in the third.
- Another EC run to start a quarter was waiting in the fourth as Emmanuel started the final quarter on a 10-0 run, over the first 3:25, boosting their lead to 23 points, the largest of the night. The Saints held the comfortable lead throughout the fourth quarter, but perhaps the highlight of the final period was the return of junior Alexis Sanders (Saco, Maine), who hasn't played since Jan. 12, 2022, due to injuries, missing the previous 35 games before tonight. Sanders checked in for the final 3:13 and scored four points.
