THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's basketball program scored a season-high 119 points in their 119-62 blowout win over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emmanuel set the tone from the jump, racing out to a 16-2 lead over the first 3:50 of play fueled by four fast break buckets
- Anna Maria cut the deficit back to single digits briefly at 29-20 with a layup by Julitza Delgado (Southbridge, Mass.) but back-to-back buckets from senior Cait Barker (Plainville, Conn.) to finish the quarter gave the Saints a 33-20 cushion heading into the second quarter.
- EC continued to add to the lead in the second, outscoring the AMCats by a 31-21 margin in the frame to take a 23-point lead into halftime at 64-41.
- Junior forward Kiera Eubanks (Portland, Maine) led all players at the break with 17 points on a 7-for-8 first half shooting performance. Emmanuel also owned a commanding 28-11 rebounding advantage in the half resulting in a 17-0 edge in second chance points for the hosts.
- Junior Olivia Matela (Swampscott, Mass.) scored the first 11 points of the second half to bump the EC lead to 75-41. This run led to the largest single-quarter point total in program history as Emmanuel dominated the third by outscoring AMC by a 39-10 margin to carry a 103-51 lead into the final frame.
- The Saints slowed the action down in the final stanza allowing the entire roster to get significant minutes as everyone that dressed logged at least 15 minutes of game-time as the hosts cruised to the 119-62 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The 119-point total ranks second all-time for points in a game behind the single-game program record of 123 points which came back on Feb. 17, 1999 in a win over Endicott College.
- Five Saints finished in double-figures as Eubanks scored a career-high 23 points on a 10-for-11 clip from the field.
- Matela was next with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, also missing a triple-double by a few helpers as she finished the afternoon with a career-high seven assists.
- Barker came off the bench for 15 points over 17 minutes while first year Reganne French (Chicago, Ill.) finished with career-highs in points (12) and rebounds (6).
- Rounding out the Saints in double-figures was first year guard Tiffany Fischer (South River, N.J.) who ended the contest with 10.
- AMC got 19 points from first year Arianna Saladini (Fitchburg, Mass.), 14 by junior Gina Parmenter (Oxford, Mass.) and 12 each from Delgado and sophomore Marinique Reddin (Tampa, Fla.).
