Women's Hoops Posts Big Second Half in 95-59 Win Over North Central (MN)
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore guard Yannie Chan (Hong Kong, China) scored a game-high 26 points and the Emmanuel College women’s basketball team recorded a 63-point second half to cruise past North Central University, 95-59, Friday afternoon at the Florida Sunshine Shootout.

THE LEAD – Sophomore guard Yannie Chan (Hong Kong, China) scored a game-high 26 points and the Emmanuel College women's basketball team recorded a 63-point second half to cruise past North Central University, 95-59, Friday afternoon at the Florida Sunshine Shootout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- EC got out to a quick start by taking a 7-2 lead after a good jumper by Olivia Matela (Swampscott, Mass.) with 4:04 left in the opening quarter.
- The sides traded hoops until midway into the second quarter when Emmanuel put together a 9-0 run capped by a three by first year guard Angelina Giordano (Chicago, Ill.) to double-up the Rams at 32-16 with just over a minute remaining in the half.
- North Central closed the period with a 5-0 flurry on a jumper by Joelle Talso followed by a three-ball from Megan Salgado to pull within 11 at 32-21 heading into halftime.
- The game was back and forth early on in the third and EC Head Coach Andy Yosinoff used a timeout to refocus the Saints. Out of the pause, Emmanuel responded with an 8-0 run to move the lead to 44-28.
- Emmanuel closed the third on a 9-0 spurt to start to pull away from the Rams with a 63-37 advantage heading into the fourth.
- The Saints went on to outscore North Central in the final frame 32-22 to coast to the 95-59 win
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Along with her 26 points, Chan stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, seven assists, five steals and one block.
- Sophomore forward Desiree Robinson (New Haven, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game/career-high 13 rebounds.
- Matela and Giordano both finished in double-figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
- No player on the Rams got to double-figures as Piper Flemming netted a team-high nine points in the defeat.
- The 63-point second half was the highest scoring half for EC this season and marked just the second time all year they've scored 30+ points in two consecutive quarters (11/20/22 vs. Brooklyn).
- EC finished the day shooting a season-best 71.4% from behind the arc (5-for-7).
- Emmanuel also dominated the rebounding margin in the victory, grabbing 53 boards compared to just 29 for the Rams.
UP NEXT
- Emmanuel is now idle until January 5 when they return to Boston to host Dean College in GNAC action scheduled to tip at 7:30 PM.
- North Central Univ. returns to the court on January 7 when they head to St. Paul, Minn. To take on University of Northwestern in UMAC action at 4:45 PM.
