THE LEAD – Three Saints finished the night in double figures, helping Emmanuel break a three-game losing streak, as EC earned their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference win of the season, following a 68-45 win over Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chargers held the early advantage in the first quarter, leading by as many as six, midway through the opening 10 minutes. After EC responded to the CSC run, tying the game 13-13, Emmanuel closed the first quarter on a 9-1 run to hold a 22-14 edge after the first.
- The Saints expanded the lead to start the second quarter, starting with seven straight points in the opening 4:24 to take a 29-14 lead. The EC lead continued to expand through the first half and thanks to a buzzer-beating layup by first-year Tiffany Fischer (South River, N.J.), the Saints led by 20 at the half, 41-21.
- After a defensively strong third quarter that saw Colby-Sawyer get only as close to 17, the Saints quickly re-established their 20-plus point advantage, scoring eight consecutive points between the end of the third and the start of the fourth, boosting their lead to 55-30.
- Emmanuel would finish the game shooting 50 percent (30-of-60) while holding Colby-Sawyer to 31.1 percent (14-of-45) shooting, as the Saints broke their three-game losing streak with a 68-45 victory.
