VOLLEYBALL TEAM FINISHES 4TH AT MIT INVITE

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Emmanuel Men’s Volleyball Team split this weekend, taking fourth place at the MIT Volleyball Invitational. The Saints opened the tournament with consecutive sweeps over Lancaster Bible College and the University of New Haven on Friday night and then suffered losses to Endicott College (3-2) and MIT (3-0) on Saturday afternoon. MIT went 4-0 en route to the tournament championship. For Emmanuel, Nick Updike was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Over the four-match stretch, the Saints were led by senior outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.). After slamming down 29 kills in Emmanuel’s 3-2 win over conference foe Rivier College last Tuesday night, Abram notched 51 kills on the weekend, averaging 4.64 kills per set and hitting .483. Abram also averaged 2.18 digs, 1.27 blocks and 0.91 aces per set at the Invitational.
Updike and Sean O’Connor (Hampstead, N.H.) dished out 86 and 70 assists, respectively, combining to average 11.3 assists per set. Junior libero Tim Ramistella (Westport, Conn.) led the Emmanuel back row with a total of 42 digs, while senior middle Thomas McCaffrey (Massapequa, N.Y.) totaled 23 blocks at the tournament.
The Saints are now 22-6 overall and 10-1 in GNAC play. Emmanuel will take this week off for spring break, but the Saints will return to action next week with a series of home matches beginning on Tuesday, March 15th.
