GOIN NAMED EMMANUEL'S HEAD MEN'S SOCCER COACH
March 19, 2009
The Emmanuel College Athletic Department is excited to announce the promotion of Colin Goin to Head Men's Soccer Coach for the Saints. Goin has been a trusted and dedicated assistant coach with the men's program for the past three seasons. He served under former head coach Julio Avila during the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons. Coach Goin is originally from New York. He received his bachelor's degree from Long Island University-Southampton College. While at LIU, Goin played defense and midfield for the men's soccer team, which was nationally ranked every year, reaching as high as third in the nation one season. Upon achieving his undergraduate education, Goin stayed on to serve as an assistant coach at Southampton College. Goin also grew up playing soccer for one of the most well-known clubs in New York, the F.C. Westchester soccer club.
Coach Goin looks forward to taking over the reigns as just the second head coach of the Emmanuel Men's Soccer program. Coach Julio Avila has been at the helm of the program since its inception in 2002. Coach Avila has resigned from coaching soccer at Emmanuel and will serve as the Head Coach of Emmanuel's new varsity Men's Golf program, which will begin play in fall of 2009.
Coach Goin is not only excited about his head coaching position, but is also looking forward to the team playing and practicing on the new turf field currently under construction at Roberto Clemente Field. Emmanuel College has established a partnership with the City of Boston to upgrade Roberto Clemente Field, a city-owned field located across the street from the Emmanuel College campus. This comprehensive restoration will result in a brand-new facility and the renovation will include an upgraded 120,000 sq. ft. NCAA-regulation synthetic turf field, a three-lane rubberized all-weather track, practice facilities for expanded track and field events, new MUSCO lighting, scoreboard, spectator stands and benches for handicapped seating. Goin feels that the new field will be a tremendous asset to the program from a recruiting standpoint and that it will make for an incredible athletic experience for our current and future men's soccer players.
