SCAVONE MEDALS; MEN'S GOLF WINS MITCHELL INVITATIONAL
GROTON, Conn. – Emmanuel College shot a team round of 346 to win the Mitchell Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course. This marks just the second time in the history of Emmanuel's golf program that the team has placed first at a multi-team event with the first coming last season at the Emmanuel Saints Invite at George Wright Golf Course on Oct. 7, 2015.

Freshman Jack Scavone (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) shot 81 and tied for the low round of the day to lead the Saints over Mitchell College (351) and Dean College (362). Dean's Mike McAuliffe (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) also carded an 81 and was declared individual medalist due to matching scorecards.
Three Emmanuel golfers shot in the 80s and finished in the top six. Sophomore Colin Cordero (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) and freshman Taylor Kieselback (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) contributed rounds of 84 and 85, respectively, while junior Lucas Curtin (Pattersonville, N.Y./Schalmont) rounded out the scoring for the Saints at 96.
Mike Izzo (Hamden, Conn./Notre Dame) led the Mariners with a round of 82 to tie for third overall. David Eichelberg (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) shot 88 while Jake Hancock (Huntington Beach, Calif./Valley Christian) came in at 90. Orson Sinclair (New London, Conn./K12 International Academy) also turned in the best round of his collegiate career at 91 and placed ninth.
Dean's Kyle Bemis (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) finished one shot behind McAuliffe at 82 and tied for third. Chris DeLuca (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Evan Menzinger (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) also contributed to the team score with rounds of 95 and 104, respectively.
The Saints return to action this weekend for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship tournament up in Gorham, Maine. Emmanuel was picked to finish eighth in the GNAC Pre-championship Coaches' Poll despite just playing Gorham Country Club last weekend at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic.
