SUFFOLK GOLF CAPTURES EMMANUEL COLLEGE INVITAIONAL
BOSTON, Mass. – Daniel Webster senior Clint Goodwin (Lebanon, N.H.) carded a 76 to earn individual medalist honors but it was Suffolk University who took home the team crown in the 2016 Emmanuel College Invitational with a team score of 329 on Wednesday afternoon at the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.
BOSTON, Mass. – Daniel Webster senior Clint Goodwin (Lebanon, N.H.) carded a 76 to earn individual medalist honors but it was Suffolk University who took home the team crown in the 2016 Emmanuel College Invitational with a team score of 329 on Wednesday afternoon at the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Goowin's Eagles finished second with a 343 followed by the host Saints with a 348. Rounding out the field was Mitchell College with a 353.
All five Rams cards scores in the 80's led by a team-low of 80 by freshman Demetrois Stamouli (Manchester, N.H.) out of the NO. 5 spot. Freshman Owen Boggini (Tolland, Conn.) wasn't far behind with an 81 out of the NO. 4 spot followed by senior Patrick Hambleton's (Methuen, Mass.) 83 from the NO. 3 slot. Sophomore Stephen Ferrante (Peabody, Mass.) rounded out the keeper scores with an 85 from the NO. 1 roster position.
Goodin paced the Eagles with his 76, shooting 38 on both the front and back side of the course. The next best score on the card for DWC came from senior Richard Eaton's (Hudson, N.H.) 88 out of the NO. 4 spot.
The host Saints received a solid outing by freshman Taylor Kieselback (Simsbury, Conn.) who shot an 82 in his first collegiate match. Sophomore Anthony Springthorpe (Swampscott, Mass.) posted an 86 out of the NO. 2 spot while senior Tyler Russ (Exeter, N.H.) carded a 41 on the front nine but ended the afternoon with an 89 from the NO. 3 position. Sophomore Brian Daly (Burlington, Mass.) carded a 91 in his first match of the season.
Mitchell received solid scores from its top three players led by David Eichelberg's 79 from the NO. 2 hole. Mike Izzo carded an 84 from the NO. 1 spot while Jake Hancock fired an 85 from the NO. 3 position.
Emmanuel, Daniel Webster and Suffolk return to action this weekend when they head to Amherst, Mass. for the Elms College Blazer Invitational. The two-day event begins on Saturday morning at Hickory Ridge Country Club. Mitchell is idle until next Wednesday when they head Greenwich, Conn and Tamarack Country Club to take on Purchase College in a head-to-head match.
