SAINTS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HOSTS ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT

The Emmanuel College Athletic Department hosted its Annual Awards Night and Dessert Reception last weekend, celebrating the Saints success during the 2012-2013 athletic seasons. Student-athletes, coaches, supportive families and fans filled the gymnasium of Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday evening, April 27th, for the annual athletic recognition night. The event featured award presentations by the head coaches of each of Emmanuel's varsity programs and spirit teams, as well as major award presentations by Saints staff and administrators. Emmanuel's food service division, Bon Appetit, provided a delectable buffet of dessert selections for all of the attendees.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men’s basketball team wrapped up the 2012-13 season with a 6-20 overall record, going 6-12 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play to earn their second consecutive trip to the GNAC playoffs at the No. 8 seed. The Saints were almost able to pull off the unthinkable with a first-round upset of No. 1 Anna Maria College, leading by two late in the action before the AMCats prevailed, 85-76, to end the year.

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior forward Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) has been named to the 2012-13 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Basketball Second Team, it was announced by the conference office earlier today.

PAXTON, Mass. – Post Grad Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, R.I.) poured-in 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor, while senior Anthony Click (Springfield, MA) scored 16 points to help lead the Anna Maria College men’s basketball team to a 85-76 victory over Emmanuel College during the Quarterfinal round of The Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament at The Fuller Activities Center this Tuesday.

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior tri-captains Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.), Michael Mailhot (Norwich, Conn.) and Connor Morgan (Glocester, R.I.) combined to score 49 points to lead the Emmanuel College men’s basketball team past Norwich University, 67-59, Saturday afternoon at the Jean Yawkey Center. With the victory, the Saints close out their regular season with a 6-19 overall record with a 6-12 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action while the Cadets campaign comes to an end with a 6-19 record (3-15 GNAC).

Newton, Mass. – With a playoff berth on the line for next week’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament, the Emmanuel College men’s basketball team punched its ticket with a 78-66 victory over Lasell College Thursday evening. The win for the Saints locked in the No. 8 seed in the GNAC tournament as they improve to 5-12 in conference play and 5-19 overall while the loss drops the Lasers to 6-19 and 5-13 in GNAC play.

PAXTON, Mass. – Senior guard Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) netted a career-high 30 points, but the Saints came up short in a 90-67 loss at Anna Maria College on Tuesday night. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss in the Fuller Activities Center, Emmanuel falls to 4-19 on the season and 4-12 in league play. The win for the AMCATS was their 14th-straight, as Anna Maria improves to 16-7 overall and 14-2 in GNAC action. Anna Maria ties the school record for consecutive victories set twice in previous seasons (91-92, 92-93).

BOSTON, Mass. – Emerson College extended its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win-streak to four games with a 60-49 win over Emmanuel College in a cross-town rivalry played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Tuesday night. The visiting Lions overcame a double-figure first-half deficit, fighting back to take the win, as they improve to 13-9 on the season and 11-4 in the league. Emmanuel drops to 4-18 overall and 4-11 in GNAC play.

STANDISH, Me. – Saint Joseph’s (14-7, 9-5 GNAC) outlasted Emmanuel College (4-17, 4-10 GNAC), 61-54, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Nicholas Jobin (Westbrook, Maine) was 6-9 from the floor and 7-7 from the free throw line to account for a team-high 19 points in the Monks’ triumph.

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Michael Gorman (Methuen, Mass.) converted a jumper in the lane with 2.6 seconds remaining to propel the Anna Maria College men’s basketball team past Emmanuel College, 55-54, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Thursday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center. With the win, the AMCats improve to 13-7 overall and 11-2 in the GNAC while the loss drops the Saints to 4-16 and 4-9. Anna Maria has now captured 11 consecutive GNAC wins while Emmanuel has dropped three contests by a single point in the last week.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) and Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) combined for 50 points as the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team downed Emmanuel College 93-82 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Monday night.

Nashua, NH - Junior Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) scored 21 points including the eventual game winner, as the Rivier University Men’s Basketball team defeated the visiting Emmanuel College Saints, 53-52 in a thrilling Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon at the Muldoon Gymnasium.

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior forward Nicholas Jobin (Westbrook, Me.) sunk a pair of key free throws with 1:07 left to play and led the visiting Monks of Saint Joseph’s College (ME) to a 61-60 victory over the host Emmanuel College Saints. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball action was played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Thursday night. The win boosts the Monks to 11-6 overall and 7-4 in GNAC play. The heart-breaking loss drops the Saints to 4-13 on the season and 4-6 in the league.

BOSTON, Mass. –The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced that Emmanuel’s senior captain Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) is the conference’s men’s basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 19th. Everson averaged an impressive line of 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and 1.5 blocks in the Saints’ two games last week.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Basketball Team fell to Emerson College, 73-65, in a cross-town rivalry, which took place in Emerson’s Brown-Plofker Gymnasium on Monday afternoon. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss dropped Emmanuel to 4-12 on the season and 4-5 in league play. Emerson improved to 8-8 overall and 6-3 in the GNAC with the win.
