WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball Team dropped pair of games in the Chuck Daly Memorial Tournament, hosted by Northwood University, during the team's winter break trip to Florida. The Saints fell to McPherson College, 76-52, on December 29th and to Valor Christian, 95-67, on December 30th. After averaging 19.5 points per game over the two-day tournament, Saints' senior guard Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) landed a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
In the Saints' tournament opener, Everson paced the squad with 16 points off 8-16 shooting, to go along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior guard Josh Welles (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit for 9 points, knocking down 2 for 2 from long range. Junior forward Theo Robinson (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with 8 points and a team-high 6 rebounds in the effort.
Day two featured a 23-point, 9-rebound performance by Everson, who dropped 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Robinson added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals, while Michael Connor Morgan (Glocester, R.I.) and D.J. Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) netted 8 and 7 points, respectively, for the Saints.
Host Northwood University went on to defeat McPherson, 101-57, in the tournament championship, capturing the Chuck Daly Crown. In Northwood's opening tournament win over Valor Christian, Head Coach Rollie Massimino captured his 700th career victory.
With his 39 points in Florida, Everson is now just sixteen points shy of 1,000 for his collegiate career. The senior tri-captain is also just seven boards away from the 500-rebound mark. Just four players in Emmanuel Men's Basketball program history have eclipsed 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
Emmanuel will be back in action this Saturday, January 5th, when the Saints host the Rams of Suffolk University in a 1pm Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle in the Jean Yawkey Center.
