CHICOPEE, Mass. – For the first time since the 2018 season for the women and the 2014 season for the men, the Emmanuel Cross Country programs claimed first place as a team on Saturday morning at the Elms Blazers XC Classic.
The Saints women were led by senior Emma Krantz (Manchester, N.H.) who won the event in the individual race, becoming the first Saints cross country runner since last season to win an event individually.
Krantz was backed up by a third- and fourth-place finish by first-years Heidi Li (Braintree, Mass.) and Mia Demore (Framingham, Mass.), respectively. Sophomore Ava Reise (Newport, R.I.) rounded out a group of Saints to finish in the top-eight, taking the eighth position in the event.
The Emmanuel women's team totaled 19 points, beating second place Mitchell by 32 on the day. Third place belonged to Hampshire, who totaled 54 points.
In the men's event, first-year Nick Ware (Rehoboth, Mass.) finished in second place following an 8k race of 31:56. Close behind in sixth- and seventh were fellow first-years Andrew Kubaska (Cumberland, R.I.) and Monet Elias (Westwood, Mass.), respectively.
The last event win for the women's program came on Oct. 28, 2018, after they won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Saint Joseph's College Race Course.
For the Saints men, it's been since Oct. 11, 2014, at the Running Monks Invitational at Saint Joseph's College, since they claimed a team victory in an event.
The two programs are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 23, returning to Franklin Park for the Codfish Bowl Cross Country Meet. Races are set to begin at 12:15 p.m.
