VERCRUYSSE POWERS CROSS COUNTRY TO ANOTHER TEAM WIN AT SUFFOLK INVITATIONAL
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's cross country team placed first overall while the men's team finished fourth at the 2018 Rams Invitational hosted by Suffolk University on the men's 8K and the women's 5K courses at the historic Franklin Park on Friday afternoon.
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's cross country team placed first overall while the men's team finished fourth at the 2018 Suffolk Rams Invitational hosted by Suffolk University on the men's 8K and the women's 5K courses at the historic Franklin Park on Friday afternoon.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
With two of the top seven runners and four in the top 21 overall, Emmanuel College topped the women's field with 69 points, edging out Endicott who finished second with 72 points
Suffolk University junior Emma Weisse bested the field with an impressive time of 19:14 while Emmanuel sophomore Pearl Vercruysse (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) finished second with a new PR time of 19:44.
FOR THE SAINTS:
- Sophomore Pearl Vercruysse (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) paced EC with a 19:44 time and finished 2nd overall
- Freshman Hannah Fitzpatrick (Revere, Mass.) posted a 20:28 effort and placed 7th
- Junior Allie Gorrill (Whitefield, Maine) placed 20th (21:16)
- Senior Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) was 21st with a 21:20 performance
- Freshman Anna Cutrone (Newburyport, Mass.) rounded out the top five finishing 25th (21:38)
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
With three of the top eight runners, Tiffin picked up an easy win on the men's side with 40 total points, well ahead of runner-up Wentworth, which capped the day with 71 points. Host Suffolk finished third with 82 points followed by the Saints who finished fourth with 133 points
Tiffin sophomore Steohen Korir claimed the individual crown after touring the 8K course in 26:21 minutes, nearly 44 seconds in front of Suffolk freshman Matyas Csiki-Fejer who finished second with a 27:05 performance.
FOR THE SAINTS:
- Junior Erik Brobst (Freeport, Maine) finished 5th with a 27:47 time
- Junior Patrick Carty (Sweden, Maine) placed 13th with a 28:22 effort
- Sophomore Trevor Hajj (Gilmanton, N.H.) posted a 29:17 time and finished 30th
- Sophomore Matthew Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) improve his time from last week by more than a minute and finished 45th (30:10)
- Senior Jefferson Zannoni (Merrimack, N.H.) rounded out the Saints top 5 finishing 46th (30:15)
NEXT!
The Saints are now idle until October 27 when they return to Standish, Maine for the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship meet hosted by Saint Joseph College. Emmanuel raced on the GNAC Championship course earlier this season at the 2018 Runnin' Monks Invite with the Women's team winning first place and the Men's team placing second.
