McCAFFREY SETS FRESHMEN RECORD, LEADS SAINTS AT UMASS-DARTMOUTH
DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Emmanuel freshman Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, R.I.) ran a 19:24 5K, setting a new EC freshmen record, finishing 33rd overall and leading the team to a 14th place finish in the varsity race at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. McCaffrey was the highest finisher from any of the six GNAC schools that competed at the meet, and was one of 18 Saints on the men's (8K) and women's (5K) sides to run a new personal best at the meet.

Senior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) was the only other Saint to finish the 5K under 20 minutes (19:44), and was the second GNAC finisher, behind only McCaffrey. Four others ran in the women's varsity race and they each ran personal bests. Sophomore Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) was third for the Saints, running a PB of 20:49 and the sixth GNAC finisher. Freshmen Mimi Duncan and Maria Sterling rounded out Emmanuel's top five, each running personal bests of 21:11 and 21:38, respectively.
The Saints were the best GNAC team in the women's varsity race, besting closest competitor, Johnson & Wales by 185 points. Women's sub-varsity finished 13th overall, and second in the GNAC, as only St. Joseph's (CT) ran better.
Freshman Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) was the top Emmanuel finisher in the sub-varsity race, setting a personal best with a 22:00 finish. Boyle placed 74th overall in the race.
Men's varsity finished ahead of St. Joseph's (ME), Anna Maria, and Mount Ida in the 8K, thanks to junior Ian Chamenko's (Beacon Falls, Conn.) personal best of 27:41, making him the second GNAC runner to cross the finish line.
Following Chamenko were seniors Sean Colford (Epping, N.H.) and Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.), who finished sixth and 12th out of all GNAC runners with respective times of 29:08 and 29:43.
Freshman Jefferson Zannoni (Merrimack, N.H.) ran a personal best of 30:43 and senior Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) finished in 32:15 to finish as the fourth and fifth Saints to complete the 8K course.
Both the men's and women's teams will compete at the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass. on September 26. The women's race will start at 11:00 a.m., while the men's race will begin at noon.
