SAINTS RETURN TO THE TRACK AT TUFTS INVITATIONAL

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams returned to action after the winter break by competing in the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore sensation Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) paced the Saints with a program-record and New England Division III Championship qualifying performance. In addition, eleven other personal bests were achieved by Emmanuel athletes on the day.
Bruno, who competed in both the 600m race and the men's 4 x 800m relay, excelled in his individual event, setting a new school record. Bruno's time of 1:24.78 also qualified him for the New England Division III Championships.
Senior captain Jordan Coulombe (Saco, Me.) sprinted to a 7th place finish with his personal best time of 9.58 in the 60m hurdles. Freshman Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) also PRed in the same event with a time of 10.48.
The women's 1 mile race featured three personal bests by Emmanuel athletes. Junior Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) led the Saints with a time of 5:55.46, while Danielle Martin (York, Me.), Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) and Hailey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.) all posted personal records.
Sophomore Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) raced to a 7th place finish in the women's 400m, with her PR of 64.32. Junior Greg St. Denis (Auburn, Me.) earned a PR in the same event on the men's side with a time of 67.34.
Junior Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) ran the lead off leg of the women's 4 x 800m relay, teaming up with DelSignore, Martin and Mauer for a new Emmanuel record time of 11:06.07.
Several Emmanuel athletes placed in the various field events. Freshman Sam Ferraro (Southwick, Mass.) and Coulombe earned 4th and 5th place in the high jump with leaps of 5'7.25" and 5'5.25", respectively. Freshman Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) recorded a height of 4'7.75" to snag 6th place on the women's side. Junior Mitch Moise (Medford, Mass.) notched two personal best throws with a distance of 29'8.75" in the shot put and 29'5.50" in the weight throw. Senior Kathleen King (Hopkinton, Mass.) achieved her PR in the weight throw with a distance of 37'9.50".
Emmanuel will compete again next Sunday, January 22nd, in Cambridge, Mass. at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.
