WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CRUISES PAST WHEATON, 3-0

BOSTON, MASS. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-11) non-conference victory over Wheaton College Thursday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center on the night during the Saints DIG PINK match in honor of breast cancer awareness. With the victory, EC extended its winning-streak to eight games and improves to 19-13 overall on the season while the loss drops the Lyons to 4-26 overall.
In the first set, the Lyons jumped out to an early 7-6 lead following a kill by junior outside hitter Christina Cannon (Milford, N.H.) but the Saints would tie it up at 7-7 and never look back as senior middle hitter Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) were able to put down five kills each en route to the 25-17 win.
The Saints kept the momentum going in the second set playing very simple and keeping the ball in play. The Lyons struggled from the field in the middle frame, registering just three kills compared to 11 hitting miscues which ultimately led to Emmanuel taking the set, 25-9.
Emmanuel continued its strong play in the final frame, outscoring Wheaton 25-11 to take the 3-0 victory.
Stanton finished the night with a match-high 12 kills on 17 swings for a .706 hitting percentage while Ross chipped in with seven kills. Senior setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) ran the offense with 17 assists while junior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Keelyng City, Taiwan) paced the defense with 12 digs.
For the Lyons, Cannon finished with a team-high five kills while also collecting seven digs in a strong all-around effort. Senior libero Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, Calif.) collected a team-high 10 digs while junior setter Olanna Nissim (Greenwich, Conn.) dished out 15 assists.
The Saints will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they host a GNAC tri-match featuring Mount Ida and Emerson College with matches at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM while the Lyons are back in action the same day when they host Springfield College at 1:00 PM in a NEWMAC tilt.
