STANTON RECORDS 1,000TH CAREER KILL TO LIFT WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PAST ALBERTUS & SUFFOLK

BOSTON, MASS. - Senior middle hitter Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) recorded her 1,000th career kill to help the Emmanuel College women's volleyball team down Albertus Magnus College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-17), Saturday afternoon at Regan Gymnasium on the campus of Suffolk University. Later in the afternoon, the Saints would complete the tri-match sweep with a 3-0 (29-27, 25-16, 25-21) win over host Suffolk University to improve to 14-13 on the year and 6-2 in GNAC play. With the losses, the Falcons are now 2-17 overall and 1-8 in GNAC play while the Rams drop to 9-15 and 3-7 in the GNAC.
Stanton needed 12 kills going into the tri-match to record the career milestone and wasted no time in reaching the accomplishment. The senior slammed home her 1,000 winner during the third set of the Saints 3-0 win over Albertus Magnus to become just the third women's volleyball player on record in program history to reach the Grand Club. Stanton finished the match with a 14 kills while also collecting a match-high five solo blocks. Senior outside hitter Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) chipped in with 14 kills of her own while senior setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) ran the offensive show with a match-high 30 assists. Junior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Cambridge, Mass.) paced the defensive effort with 16 digs.
In the second match of the afternoon, Ross would put down a team-high 13 kills while Stanton chipped in with 11 to help Emmanuel push past Suffolk, 3-0. Ross also recorded 16 digs in the win and is now just nine digs shy of becoming the program's all-time leader in digs as she is currently eight digs shy of tying her former teammate Amanda Machado (2005-08) who is the current record holder with 1,431 digs. Olsen had another solid showing dishing out 28 assists with Ting would add 23 more digs in the win.
The Saints will return to the court on Tuesday, October 18 when they head across the street to face GNAC foe Simmons College at the Holmes Sports Center at 7:00 p.m.
