VOLLEYBALL TEAM COMPETES IN MID-COAST CLASSIC

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Maine over the weekend to compete in the Mid-Coast Classic Tournament, hosted by Bowdoin College and Bates College. Despite hanging with the tough competition all weekend, the Saints returned from the trip with four non-conference losses. Emmanuel fell to Bowdoin (3-0) and University of New England (3-1) on Friday night and to Colby (3-1) and Bates (3-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Senior outside hitter Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, MA) led Emmanuel with a total of 56 kills, 30 digs, and 8 blocks in the four matches. Parker hit .260 for the weekend and averaged 3.73 kills per set. Senior defensive specialist Amanda Machado (Swansea, MA) tallied a team-high 80 digs in the tournament, including a season-high 29 digs in the Saints 4-set match with Bates.
Sophomore libero Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) notched 57 digs on the weekend, while junior middle Nicole McAllister (Hampden, ME) recorded 19 blocks for the Saints. Emmanuel's freshmen setters, Kathryn Olsen (Fairhaven, CT) and Cynthia Hernandez (South Dennis, MA) combined to dish out 107 assists over the four matches.
Rookie hitter Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, MA) had a solid offensive performance, slamming down 32 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Megan Murray (Killingworth, CT) totaled 18 kills in the effort for Emmanuel.
With the losses in Maine, the Saints fell to 6-9 on the season, but remain undefeated t 2-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Emmanuel will return to conference matches on Tuesday night (10/7), when the saints travel to Nashua, NH to take on the Raiders of Rivier College in a 7pm start.
