BOSTON – Saints senior Brigid Moriarty (Westfield, Mass.) has been named to the College Sports Communicators Division III Women's Volleyball Academic All-District Team, as announced by the CSC on Dec. 12.
The CSC recently updated its criteria for nomination and selection to the All-District Teams. Among the changes was that nominated student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of a team's total sets or start in at least 66 percent of contests throughout the year. The previous threshold for nomination was at least 50 percent of games played, provided the player was used in a significant role.
Familiar criteria remained in place as nominees must still be a sophomore in academic standing and hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Moriarty played in 88 of the Saints 100 sets during the season but reached the criteria necessary for nomination to the Academic All-District Team by starting 23 of the Saints 28 matches. The senior setter led the Saints with 379 assists and 4.31 assists per set. Moriarty also had a team-high 47 service aces in her 2023 campaign.
Unlike in past years, the nomination to the Academic All-District team does not necessarily move a student-athlete into consideration for the Academic All-American® ballot. A committee, comprised of Academic All-American® Core Members and members from the CSC will determine which athletes move to the All-American ballot.
Once the ballot is released, CSC members have until Dec. 19 to vote for Academic All-Americans®. The CSC will announce the Academic All-American® First, Second, and Third Teams on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
