Women's Volleyball Grabs Two Straight Set Wins at Lesley in Thursday Doubleheader
LEXINGTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women’s volleyball picked up a pair of straight sets sweeps on Thursday evening, defeating the Lesley Lynx in a pair of matches in non-conference action at Minuteman High School Court.

LEXINGTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women's volleyball picked up a pair of straight sets sweeps on Thursday evening, defeating the Lesley Lynx in a pair of matches in non-conference action at Minuteman High School Court.
Match 1: Emmanuel 3 – Lesley 0 (25-6, 25-9, 25-16)
A 5-2 run early in the first set and a 7-0 spurt through the middle of the set helped the Saints launch out to a 17-3 lead. The Saints continued their dominant set, claiming a 25-6 first set win, capped off by an ace for first-year Kason Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.)
Emmanuel used an 11-1 run in the second set to open up a large lead in the frame. The final five points went to the Saints in their 25-9 set win.
The Saints were out in front early in the third, winning 13 of the first 15 points of the set. But the Lynx fought back with their best effort of the night, going on a 9-1 run to cut the deficit down to 14-11. The Saints regathered the momentum, slowly pulling away to a 25-16 set win.
Saints sophomore Maeve Gaffny (North Andover, Mass.) had a match-high seven kills while hitting .583 from the floor. First-year Maya Barthel (Nottingham, N.H.) had 20 assists. Senior Brigid Moriarty (Westfield, Mass.) chipped in with a match-best six aces.
Match 2: Emmanuel 3 – Lesley 0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-11)
In the opening set of match two, it was nine consecutive points early in the set that helped the Saints to a large lead. The lead would hold until the end of the set, as Emmanuel finished with a 7-0 run to take the opening frame 25-10.
The second set saw the Saints win 17 of the first 20 points to jump out to a 17-3 edge. The lead would continue to grow as Emmanuel took home the set at 25-7.
The Saints held the momentum into the third set, starting the play with a 12-3 lead. Emmanuel continued to build on the lead, and a final kill by senior Camila Moreno-Bo (Miami, Fla.) gave the Saints another straight sets sweep.
Gaffny matched a career-high with eight kills in the second match. First-years Brielle Hardy (Billerica, Mass.), Sophia Rose (Bethpage, N.Y.), and Jasmine Maradiaga (Randolph, Mass.) all set career-highs in kills. Hardy had eight kills while Rose and Maradiaga each had six. Barthel set a career-high in assists with 22.
The Saints (15-8, 8-4 GNAC) return home on Wednesday, Nov. 1 for a conference match with Simmons at 7:00 p.m. on Yosinoff Court.
