Saints Sweep Matches Over Anna Maria and Albertus Magnus
BOSTON – Emmanuel Women’s Volleyball (7-1 GNAC) took two wins away from Saturday’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on Andy Yosinoff Court beating Anna Maria 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18) in the first match and Albertus Magnus 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-11) in the second match.

Match 1: Emmanuel 3 – Anna Maria 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18)
After trailing 2-0 in the opening set, the Saints scored five straight points and took control of the match against Anna Maria. The early run included kills from Seana Phillips (Middleboro, Mass.) and Wiktoria Galazyn (Plainville, Conn.). With the Saints leading 20-16 late in the first set, two Isabella Marquez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) kills and a Paula Tanguilig (Sandwich, Mass.) ace propelled another 5-0 run to allow the Saints to take the first set 25-16.
The second set was all Saints as the home side led by as many as ten during the frame before winning 25-14. The set was highlighted by yet another 5-0 run from Emmanuel including two more aces from Tanguilig and a kill each for Phillips and Marquez. Capping off the set was a Jasmine Maradiaga (Randolph, Mass.) kill, giving the Saints a 2-0 lead.
Midway through the third set Anna Maria trailed by just a point with the score 13-12. The Saints proceeded to win six of the next eight points to pull out in front 19-14. The match was settled at 25-18 with a Maradiaga ace giving Emmanuel a 3-0 victory.
Kason Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded her sixth consecutive game with double-digit assists by finishing with 18. Marquez and Phillips led the Saints with eight kills each. Jana Hunt (Shubenacdie, NS) led Anna Maria with eight kills and Julia Tarantino (Pembroke, Mass.) was the team's leader in digs (12) and assists (17).
Match 2: Emmanuel 3, Albertus Magnus 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-11)
Wiktoria Galazyn powered the Saints in the first set with five kills. Emmanual got out to an early 9-5 lead over Albertus Magnus, but the Falcons scored four straight points to level the match at 9-9 led by two kills from Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia). Emmanuel responded with a 5-0 run of their own to put themselves back in the lead. The Saints scored the final nine points of the set to win 25-15 and go up 1-0.
Set number two was all Saints from wire to wire. Emmanuel jumped out to an 8-0 lead, extending their nine-point scoring streak from the end of the first set to 17. Albertus Magnus struggled to gain any momentum in the set with the Saints extending their lead to as many as 14. Six different Saints recorded a kill in the second set helping the Saints take a 25-16 victory.
After falling behind early in the third set, the Saints quickly reestablished control of the match. Leading 8-7, Emmanuel went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to nine. Never looking back, Emmanuel took the final set 25-11 and won their second match of the day 3-0.
Brigid Moriarty (Westfield, Mass.) led the match with 19 assists. Tanguilig had 19 digs while Huynh had 9 kills for the Saints. Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 14 assists for Albertus Magnus.
Up next, the Saints will travel to Lasell University this Wednesday (10/11) for a GNAC matchup at 7 p.m.
