Emmanuel Sweeps Curry 3-0 in Non-Conference Volleyball Play
BOSTON – Emmanuel College took down the Curry College Colonels 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-20) Tuesday evening on Andy Yosinoff Court in non-conference play. Emmanuel improves to 4-2 on the season, their best start to a season since 2005.

Curry won the first two points of the first set before the Saints caught fire by winning the next seven points and controlling the remainder of the set. Emmanuel led by as many as nine in the middle of the set before sophomore outside hitter Isabella Marquez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) finished off the set with a kill, giving the Saints a 25-15 first set win.
In set two, the Saints cruised to an early lead by winning 15 of the first 20 points. Curry closed the lead to as little as seven, but Emmanuel finished the set on a 9-0 run to secure a 25-9 second set victory. The Saints hit a season-best .429 in the set.
In the third, the Saints looked poised for another comfortable victory beginning the set with a 20-9 advantage. However, the Colonels fought back with an 11-4 run, fending off three match points to trail 24-20. The Saints lead was to large to overcome as Marquez capped off the match with another kill, concluding the final set 25-20.
Marquez finished with a career-high 15 kills while also adding eight digs and hitting a red-hot .520 from the floor. Senior setter Brigid Moriarty (Westfield, Mass.) added 16 assists for the Saints while first-year setter Kason Huynh (Mission Viejo, Calif.) added 14 of her own.
Curry senior Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.) finished with a team-high four kills. First-years Phoebe Savas (Framingham, Mass.) and Emma Hobart (Le Roy, N.Y.) chipped in with three kills each.
The Saints return to action on Thursday, September 21 travelling to Framingham State for a 6 p.m. non-conference matchup. Curry heads home to host Wentworth on September 23 at 11 a.m.
