THE LEAD – The WPI women's volleyball team cruised past host Emmanuel College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-19) in non-conference action on Thursday evening in the Jean Yawkey Center Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The squads traded points in the opening set to a 10-9 score before the Engineers took control of the action, closing the set on a 15-2 run powered by a strong service game from Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, N.H.) en route to the 25-11 win.
- In the second frame, WPI stepped on the pedal early racing out to a 14-2 lead as senior Suela Miloshi (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore Paige Garland (Nashua, N.H.) paced another set of strong service game to power the visitors to another 25-11 victory and a 2-0 lead on the match.
- The Engineers carried that momentum into the final set, jumping ahead 7-0 early on to take control. The Saints battled and got within striking distance late in the frame, pulling to within three points at 20-17 following a kill by sophomore middle Seana Phillips (Middleboro, Mass.) but WPI regrouped to pull out the 25-19 win for the road sweep.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Wetmore led all players with a match-high 12 kills, four aces and a .360 hitting clip while Garland chipped in with nine winners. Miloshi paced the WPI defensive front with a match-best 13 digs and four aces.
- EC junior Tatiana Correia (Peabody, Mass.) posted a team-high 12 digs and senior Caitlin Tannian (Reading, Mass.) added five kills.
- As a team, WPI recorded an impressive .322 team hitting clip while holding the Saints to a negative -.037 night.

- Emmanuel returns to action on Saturday, October 23 traveling to Norwich University for an important GNAC showdown starting at 12:00 PM.
- WPI is back the same day playing host to Worcester State in non-conference play scheduled for 1:00 PM in Harrington Auditorium.
