THE LEAD – Balanced offensive play from the Emmanuel Saints got them back to their winning ways as they claimed a straight sets sweep over the Dean Bulldogs on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening set, the Saints and Bulldogs battled for control early, but a 10-3 scoring run by Emmanuel, including three kills from junior Kerry Shea (Tewksbury, Mass.), would ultimately help the Saints take control on their way to a 25-16 set win.
- In the second set, a string of six points in a row helped the Saints create some distance, early in the set. The Bulldogs pulled within five on multiple occasions, but a kill by senior Seana Phillips (Middleboro, Mass.) gave the set to Emmanuel, 25-18.
- In the third set, the fight for control was back on for the sides, but just like the prior sets, a scoring run, this time of 5-0, helped the Saints gather momentum. Emmanuel went on to score the last five points, including the final kill by junior Rachel Coleman (Peabody, Mass.), in the Saints 25-15 set win.
