HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Set 1: Holding an 8-6 lead, a kill by MIT sophomore Hannah Collins (Sunnyvale, Calif.) sparked a 9-3 run. The Engineers maintained a comfortable cushion, reaching set point at 24-15 on a kill by senior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.Y.). Kills by Emma Fenton and Alexis Powell extended the frame for Emmanuel, but another Groark strike clinched the win.
- Set 2: An ace by Jalen Winfrey gave the Saints a 3-2 edge, however, an Emmanuel miscue set off a string of four unanswered points which put MIT ahead for good. A kill from Marissa Cataldo narrowed the gap to 6-4. However, strong serving by junior Francesca Macchiavello (Lexington, Ky.), which featured three aces, fueled a 10-0 run that propelled the Engineers to a 25-10 victory.
