Women's Volleyball Drops Two in GNAC Tri-Match with Colby-Sawyer & Suffolk
NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 5, 2019 – The Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match with the host Chargers and Suffolk on Saturday as part of the 2019 CSC Homecoming Weekend.
NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 5, 2019 – The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match with the host Chargers and Suffolk on Saturday as part of the 2019 CSC Homecoming Weekend.
The Chargers began the day with a 3-1 victory over Emmanuel by scores of 25-15, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-9. Suffolk then outlasted Emmanuel 3-2 with scores of 27-29, 26-24, 15-25, 25-14 and 15-5. Suffolk closed the day with a 3-1 triumph over Colby-Sawyer 25-13, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-15.
Colby-Sawyer goes to 9-12 overall and 2-3 in conference action. The Chargers are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at home against GNAC foe.
Suffolk improves to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in the GNAC. The Rams host nationally ranked GNAC opponent Johnson & Wales on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Emmanuel drops to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Saints host a GNAC match against Lasell on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
COLBY-SAWYER 3, EMMANUEL 1 – 25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-9
Colby-Sawyer senior Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) led all players with 15 kills and four blocks. First-year Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.) hit .435 to finish with 11 kills. Sophomore Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) posted 40 assists, five kills and seven digs. Senior Morgan Flynn (Reading, Mass.) led all players with 17 digs.
Four different Chargers had four aces in the match. Colby-Sawyer hit an impressive .455 with 18 kills in the third set.
Emmanuel was paced by an 8-kill effort from senior Marissa Cataldo (Melrose, Mass.). First-year setter Rachel Coleman (Peabody, Mass.) tallied 27 assists and 14 digs, while first-year libero Tatiana Correia (Peabody, Mass.) picked up a team best 16 digs.
SUFFOLK 3, EMMANUEL 2 – 27-29, 26-24, 15-25, 25-14, 15-5
Suffolk was led by Hannah Fabiano (Litchfield, N.H.). She posted 22 kills and 14 digs. First-year setter Harmony Johnson (Riverside, Calif.) guided the offense with 37 assists. First-year Kenzley Bell (Lake Park, Ga.) contributed eight kills, three aces and a team best 19 digs.
Elizabeth Syverson (Huntington, Vt.) led Emmanuel with eight kills and three blocks. Cataldo led all players with 25 digs to go with seven kills. Correia added 22 digs. Coleman finished with 28 assists.
SUFFOLK 3, COLBY-SAWYER 1 – 25-13, 25-19, 23-25, 25-15
Suffolk was once again led by Fabiano. She had a double-double of 19 kills and 10 digs. Bell added 10 kills and nine digs, while junior Stephanie Rheaume (Hampton, N.H.) registered six blocks. Junior libero Dakhensey Marcellus (Brockton, Mass.) collected a match high 18 digs.
Naarah Cox paced the Chargers with 11 kills, while senior Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) finished with seven kills and 16 digs. Morgan Flynn picked up 17 digs for the second match in a row. Oliva Werner tallied seven kills, while Anna Allen finished with 29 assists. Senior Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) followed her first match 4-ace effort with another three against the Rams.
