RAIDERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN GNAC PLAY TAKING DOWN THE SAINTS, 3-0

THE LEAD: Junior outside hitter Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) led the Rivier University women's volleyball team on their way to a three set sweep of the Saints, (25-21, 25-16, 25-14), to remain undefeated in GNAC play on Thursday evening on the Andy Yosinoff court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders went on an early five point rally before the EC closed the lead to tie the game, 9-9, thanks to kills by Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.), before Rivier was able to close out the set with great offensive play by Courtney Collins (Litchfield, N.H.), 25-21.
- The second set started with the Saints going on an early 6-1 run before the Raiders six points in a row to take the lead 9-7 with back to back kills by Jess Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.) and Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.).
- Rivier was able to close out the second set going on an 11-3 run, highlighted by Whyte and senior setter Hayley Mackenzie (Clifton Park, N.Y.), 25-16.
- The Saints weren't able to come back from the two set deficit, dropping the third set despite multiple kills by senior setter Carly Church (Higganum, Conn.), 25-14.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shelow recorded ten kills on the evening loss for the Saints, the most for either team, along with seven digs and two assisted blocks.
- Senior setter Carly Church recorded 13 assists on the night, while Macken recorded 25 for the Raiders.
- The Raiders were able to be much more efficient offensively than the Saints, recording a .256 hit percentage in comparison to .033 for EC.
- Freshman libero Leah Giampietro led the defensive back row of the Raiders, with 16 digs, while Saint's libero Katharine Journeay (Hampton, N.H) collected 11 digs.
UP NEXT
- The Saints have a much needed day off on Friday before heading on the road on Saturday, October 13th against GNAC rival Lasell College.
- Rivier will be traveling to Johnson and Wales on Saturday for a key GNAC match, as neither team has lost a conference match this season.
