#22 MIT SWUNG AWAY SWEEPING THE SAINTS, 3-0
Freshman right side hitter Nikasha Patel (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) recorded 16 kills on the evening, leading the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers to a three set sweep of the Emmanuel College Saints, (25-13, 25-20, 25-11), Thursday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.

THE LEAD: Freshman right side hitter Nikasha Patel (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) recorded 16 kills on the evening, leading the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers to a three set sweep of the Emmanuel College Saints, (25-13, 25-20, 25-11), Thursday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set of the evening started with both teams trading points through four before the Engineers started to pull away, thanks to back to back kills by Patel, taking the lead 9-5.
- Senior Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) and Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) led the offensive attack of the Saints, recording two mid-set kills, but MIT was able to continue their high percentage offense, holding the lead by at least four points through the remainder of the set, taking the set 25-13.
- The Saints come out of the break with great offensive efficiency, with kills by Shelow and Alexandra Mezzo (Naugatuck, Conn.), taking the lead 6-2, before MIT came racing back to tie the match at eight, thanks to kills by Patel and Emily Condon (Orange, Calif.), 8-8.
- EC was able to capitalize on four errors in a row by the Engineers and kills by sophomore middle hitter Molly Michaud (Cheshire, Conn.), keeping the set tied before MIT was able to finish the set with five points in a row, taking the set 25-20.
- MIT was able to take a 10-3 lead quickly with back to back kills by Julia Caravias (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Patel, before the Saints stopped the eight point run with an assisted block by Shelow and Mezzo, 10-4.
- The Engineers controlled the remainder of the set, taking the third set with a final score of 25-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Patel recorded a match-high 16 kills, along with two assists and a block for the Engineers on the way to a three set sweet of the Saints.
- Senior setter Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.) led the night with 38 assists, while Emmanuel's setter Carly Church (Higganum, Conn.) recorded 15 assists.
- The Engineers finished the evening with 16 blocks, while the Saints were only able to record five.

- EC will be hosting a tri-match on Saturday, October 6th against crosstown GNAC rival Suffolk University and the University of New England, starting at 12 PM.
- The Engineers have the weekend to rest before heading to NEWMAC foe Clark University on Tuesday, October 9th at 6 PM.
