JOURNEAY’S DEFENSE LEADS THE SAINTS OVER THE FISHER, 3-1
Senior defensive specialist Katharine Journeay (Hampton, N.H.) tallied 31 digs on the night for the Saints on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Fisher College Falcons, (25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19), Thursday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.

THE LEAD: Senior defensive specialist Katharine Journeay (Hampton, N.H.) tallied 31 digs on the night for the Saints on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Fisher College Falcons, (25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19), Thursday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints and Falcons battled back and forth in the first match to an 8-8 tie, before the Saints went on a scoring rally to close out the match with a kill by sophomore middle hitter Molly Michaud (Cheshire, Conn.), 25-17.
- The second set started off very similar to the first, with the set remaining close until the Saints began to pull away thanks to kills by junior middle hitter Alexandra Mezzo (Maugatuck, Conn.), taking the set 25-17.
- EC came out of the break hot with a four-point run before the Falcons closed the lead and battled from behind through the whole set before taking the lead for the first time in the set at 24-25, then taking the game thanks to a service ace by Natie Manalo (San Francisco, Calif.) and an EC error, 24-26.
- Senior outside hitters Mary Shelow (Miami, Flor.) and Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) took control of the fourth set, leading the Saints to a 25-19 victory, closing out the match 3-1 for the Saints.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Journeay led both teams with 31 digs on the night, a new career-high for the senior.
- Senior setter Carly Church (Higganum, Conn.) recorded 31 assists on the night, while Manalo recorded 17 for the Falcons.
- The Saints recorded ten service aces on the night, four of which came from Sheehan and two a piece by Marissa Cataldo (Melrose, Mass.) and Journeay.
- Freshman Yeryvel Catala (Guarbo, Puerto Rico) recorded a game-high 16 kills for the Falcons, while Sheehan recorded 10 for the Saints.
- The Falcons finishing the night hitting .141 as a team with 39 kills compared to .126 from Emmanuel with 46 kills.
