THE LEAD: Four different players recorded 10+ kills to power the University of Massachusetts Boston Women's Volleyball team past host Emmanuel College, 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-8, 25-9), Tuesday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints played a near flawless first set, holding the Beacons to a .083 hitting percentage to pick up a 25-20 win and take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
- UMass Boston rebounded in the second frame with a gaudy .435 hitting clip, connecting on 14 kills during a 25-17 win to even the match at 1-set a piece.
- The Beacons rolled in the third frame, forcing Emmanuel into hitting a negative -.421 in the set to take a 2-1 lead in the action.
- UMass Boston cruised in the final frame with a 25-9 win to seal the 3-1 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Marcelle Tiscareno (El Paso, Texas), Emilia Czapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.), Eileen Shi (San Francisco, Calif.) and Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Calif.) all posted double-figure kill totals for UMB with Tiscareno leading the way with 11 winners and the other three chipping in with 10 kills each.
- Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio) dished out a match-high 26 assists while Christina Elliot (Camas, Wash.) collected 17 helpers in the win for the Beacons.
- Macayla Chianco (Clearwater, Fla.) paced the UMB defensive effort with a match-high 19 digs.
- For the Saints, senior outside hitter Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) posted a team-high five kills while junior outside hitter Marissa Cataldo (Melrose, Mass.) collected team-best eight digs.
- The Beacons owned a 16-6 advantage in service aces in the win.
- UMB hit a combined .309 as a team compared to a negative -.059 for the Saints.
- The loss snaps a nine-game winning streak over UMass Boston for Emmanuel as the Saints as now 9-2 all-time vs. UMB.
