UMASS DARTMOUTH TOPS WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL, 3-1
BOSTON, Mass. - Junior outside hitter Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) recorded a match-high 20 kills to power the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Women’s Volleyball team past host Emmanuel College, 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19), Thursday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.

THE LEAD: Junior outside hitter Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) recorded a match-high 20 kills to power the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Women's Volleyball team past host Emmanuel College, 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19), Thursday evening in non-conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Corsairs never trailed in the opening set on their way to a 25-20 victory to open up the 1-0 lead in the match.
- In the second set, Emmanuel jumped out to an early 4-2 lead and later led 10-9 before UMass Dartmouth took the lead for good on a kill by sophomore Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) en route to a 25-19 win to take a 2-0 lead in the action.
- UMass Dartmouth looked poised for a sweep, racing ahead to a 7-4 lead in the third set before the Saints responded with a 9-1 run behind the service game of junior Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) to take control of the pace and cruise to a 25-18 win to pull the match to a 2-1 score.
- With the momentum, Emmanuel stayed hot and grabbed an early 7-4 lead in the fourth frame but a kill by sophomore right side Colleen Riley (Mansfield, Mass.) pulled UMD ahead 9-8 and the visitors retained the lead on the way to a 25-19 win for to seal the match at 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- LaCroix was one of two Corsairs posting double-doubles adding 10 digs while Silverman finished the match with 13 kills and a match-high 21 digs.
- Emmanuel junior right side Samantha DeMarco (Rockland, Mass.) paced Emmanuel with a team-high 13 kills with a .409 attacking percentage.
- UMD sophomore libero Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) and sophomore defensive specialist Meghan Mullinax (Lake Balboa, Calif.) paced the backrow effort with 16 and 13 digs, respectively.
- The Saints received 13 digs each from Sheehan and junior libero Katharine Journeay (Hampton, N.H.) while freshman setter Madison Majewski (Swansea, Mass.) recorded a double-double on 13 assists and 11 digs.
- UMass Dartmouth sophomore setter Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) ran a smooth offense for the Corsairs with 38 assists while also recording two aces in the win.
- The Corsairs finishing the night hitting .201 as a team compared to .084 from Emmanuel.

- The Saints return to action on Saturday, October 21 when they host an important GNAC tri-match against Regis College and Lasell College with all three squads fighting for a playoff berth.
