WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL COMPETES AT SMITH HALL OF FAME TOURNAMENT
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team competed this past weekend at the Smith College Hall of Fame Tournament, taking on Trinity College (CT), Hamilton College and host Smith College. The Saints picked up a 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 27-25, 25-14) win over the Pioneers in their middle match of the tourney, falling to Trinity and Hamilton in their other contests. Senior outside hitter Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Saints picked up a 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 27-25, 25-14) win over the Pioneers in their middle match of the tourney, falling to Trinity and Hamilton in their other contests. Senior outside hitter Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Match 1 vs. Trinity (CT): 3-0 loss (25-27, 20-25, 27-29)
The Saints battled with the Bantams in a highly contested match-up, but ultimately fell in straight sets. Trinity needed extra points to win both the first and third frame.
Sophomore Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Shannon Carroll (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the way with eight kills each while Chruscielski added seven kills and a match-high 17 digs. Also in double-figures for digs were senior libero Sarah Schemerhorn (Los Angeles, Calif.) with 15 digs, sophomore Katherine Journey (Hampton, N.H.) with 14 digs and freshman Marissa Cataldo (Melrose, Mass.) with 10 digs.
Match 2 vs. Smith: 3-1 win (25-17, 16-25, 27-25, 25-14)
After trading sets to open the match, the Saints won a tough third set 27-25 to swing the momentum in their favor en route to a 25-14 win in the fourth set for the victory.
Chruscielski led Emmanuel with 10 kills and 16 digs for a double-double. Carroll added eight kills while Schemerhorn was huge defensively with 26 digs. Freshman setter Samantha DeMarco (Rockland, Mass.) dished out 18 helpers in the win and sophomore setter Carly Church (Higgnum, Conn.) added 17 assists.
Match 3 vs. Hamilton: 3-0 loss (18-25, 16-25, 21-25)
EC was outmatched in their final tilt of the tournament as the Continentals cruised to by the Saints in straight sets, holding Emmanuel to a .068 hitting percentage in the action.
Shelow recorded eight kills and a .304 attacking percentage to lead the way for the Saints. Journeay added 13 digs and three aces
What's Next?
The Saints are idle until Saturday, October 29 when they host Rivier University and Saint Joseph's College (ME) in their final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match. Emmanuel opens the day against Rivier at 12:00 PM and closes the day with a tilt against the Monks at 4:00 PM.
