WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL POSTS 1-2 RECORD AT RWU INVITATIONAL
BRISTOL, R.I. – The Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team posted a 1-2 record at the 2016 Roger Williams Invitation, posting a 3-1 victory over the University of New England to go along with a pair of losses to Worcester State University and Bridgewater State University. The Saints are now 7-12 on the year.

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team posted a 1-2 record at the 2016 Roger Williams Invitation, posting a 3-1 victory over the University of New England to go along with a pair of losses to Worcester State University and Bridgewater State University. The Saints are now 7-12 on the year.
Friday, Sept. 30 vs. Worcester State University
Despite a 20-kill outing from sophomore outside hitter Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) that Saints fell to the Lancers, 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 2-15), in the opening match of the RWU Invite. Emmanuel came out strong posting a 25-18 win in the opening set but dropped the next two sets to face a 2-1 deficit. EC rallied for a hard fought 25-23 win to force a decisive fifth set but Worcester State cruised to a 15-2 win in the final frame for the match.
Senior middle hitter Kaiylyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) added 13 kills in the action. Four Saints posted double-digit dig totals led by a team-high 21 by sophomore Katharine Journeay (Hampton, N.H.) followed by 17 from senior Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.), 14 from sophomore Carly Church (Higganum, Conn.) and 12 from senior Sarah Schemerhorn (Los Angeles, Calif.). Church also dished out 21 assists in the match.
Saturday, Oct. 1 vs. University of New England
The Saints bounced back from their Day 1 loss for a strong 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23) showing against the Nor'Easters. Emmanuel dropped the opening set but took the next three en route to the 3-1 win, holding UNE to a .056 team hitting percentage.
Atkinson and Shelow led the way with a combined 17 kills while Chruscielski and freshman Marissa Cataldo (Melrose, Mass.) each chipped in with five winners. Church and rookie setter Samantha DeMarco (Rockland, Mass.) each tallied 13 assists in the win while sophomore Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) paced the defensive effort with a team-best 10 digs.
Saturday, Oct. 1 vs. Bridgewater State University
In their final match of the Invitational, the Saints dropped a 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 15-25) effort to the BSU Bears. Emmanuel hung around in both the first and second sets but was overpowered by Bridgewater State in the final stanza as the Bears his .417 as a team in set three.
Shelow recorded nine kills to finish the invitational with a total of 37 winners over three matches. Church passed out 10 assists while Schemerhorn and Sheehan both were in double-figures for digs with 16 and 14, respectively.
What's Next?
Emmanuel is idle until Thursday, Oct. 6 when they head to Regis College for a 6:00 PM non-conference tilt against the Pride.
