DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team stopped visiting non-league foe Emmanuel College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18), Tuesday night at Feldman Arena.
DANBURY, Conn. – The Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team stopped visiting non-league foe Emmanuel College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18), Tuesday night at Feldman Arena. Colonial senior outside hitter Karissa Smith (Bristol, Conn.) notched a match-high 11 kills, while classmate setter Danielle Kaminsky (Southington, Conn.) dished out 24 assists.
The hosts broke the ice with a 24-15 win in the opening game. They earned yet another 24-15 win in game two before concluding the night with a 25-18 win to earn the shutout.
WCSU rookie outside hitter Alyssa Dam (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added six kills, while senior Cady Cordes (Fallon, N.V.) and sophomore Kamari King (East Hartford, Conn.) added five kills apiece for the Colonials.
For the Saints, sophomore outside hitter Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) led the way with a team-best eight kills. Sophomore Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) paced the defensive effort with a match-high 12 digs. Freshman Samantha DeMarco (Rockland, Mass.) added nine assists and two kills.
With the win, Western improved to 4-1 overall while the Saints dropped to 0-5. The Colonials return to action Saturday at 12:00 PM against Worcester State at the Wesleyan Tournament while Emmanuel is back on the court the same day in action at the Wheaton Invitational against Wheaton College at 4:00 PM and SUNY Plattsburgh at 6:00 PM.
