WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL NOTCHES TWO WINS AT LASELL
The Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team headed down the road to Newton for a tri-match with host Lasell College and Gordon College, picking up a pair of victories. EC topped the hosts in a five-set thriller before defeating Gordon in their second match, dispatching the Fighting Scots in three sets.
Newton, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team headed down the road to Newton for a tri-match with host Lasell College and Gordon College, picking up a pair of victories. EC topped the hosts in a five-set thriller before defeating Gordon in their second match, dispatching the Fighting Scots in three sets. Lasell held off Gordon, 3-1 in the day's third match to improve to 6-19 on the year. The GNAC loss to Emmanuel left Lasell at 5-4 in league play this season. Emmanuel used the pair of victories to push their record to 10-14 on the season, and with the GNAC victory over Lasell improved to 4-2 in the conference. Gordon fell to 12-10 overall with the pair of non-conference losses.
Lasell opened up their matchup with Emmanuel by taking the opening set 25-15 to go ahead 1-0. Emmanuel responded by winning the second set, 25-21, only to see the hosts go on top with a 25-18 victory in the third set. The Saints played a nearly flawless fourth set, tallying 10 kills against zero attacking errors to collect the 25-19 victory to even the match at 2-2. The visitors then took an early lead in the deciding set, and held on for the 15-12 final.
A trio of Lasers had double figure kills led by Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) with 16, Alexis Chappell (Springfield, Mass.) with 12 and Sara Biondo (Coventry, R.I.) with 10kills. Alyssa Nahigian dished out 46 assists (Coventry, R.I.), while Marissa Visocch (Whitman, Mass.) i and Jordan Seid (Rowland Heights, Calif.) collected 21 and 19 digs on the day. Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) led the way for Emmanuel, finishing with 11 kills on the day, getting help from Brittany Tutalo (Johnston, R.I.) and Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) who each notched 8 kills. Yun Ting-Lee (Keelung, Taiwan) and Christina Durkee (Salem, Conn.) posted 24 and 17 digs respectively.
Emmanuel faced off with Gordon College in the second match, winning 25-14, 25-16 and 25-18 in straight sets. Lasren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) led the Fighting Scots attack, totaling 12 kills and adding 12 digs in the defeat. Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn.) posted a team-high 18 digs in the three set affair. Colby again paced the Saints offense, tallying 5 kills, while libero Yun-Ting Lee had 20 digs in the victory.
In the final match of the day, Lasell held off Gordon using scores of, 25-22, 25-17, 25-27 and 25-19 to bring home the victory. Chappell and Scott-Rawlins again led the way, with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Jordan Seid finished the four set match with 31 digs, and Chappell added 22, while Alyssa Nahigian directed an efficient Lasers attack handing out 36 assists. Faith Gerdes (Wall Lake, Iowa) and Hannah Swor (Pearland, Texas) each tallied 9 kills for Gordon College with Joy Kimmel (Madison, Conn.) dishing out 30 assists in defeat.
